Ok. Now I have the naming scheme down. Every single .m4v has gone through MetaZ, has been assigned a « type » of video — each one is a MOVIE.
All of these files are in 2 folders. I create a library and select « Movies » type, then add the two folders.
Once everything has been added properly and meta-updated by Plex… i go on my iPhone and access the library remotely, and NOTHING is in the Movies library. It always all ends up in « Other Videos ».
So am I correct in assuming that it may be only ONE file that has an incorrect type? What else could there be?
Just swinging in the dark here, but doesn’t MetaZ update the internal file tags for the files? Plex gets weird when that happens. Try going into the Agents settings in the server settings page and moving the Local Media Assets agent to the bottom of each one. I think that will de-prioritize the built-in file metadata vs. the Plex lookup metadata. You might have to perform a “Refresh all Metadata” from the library’s three dots menu. If it doesn’t work you can always move it back.
I stopped updating the file with metadata and instead just use Filebot to correctly name the files in the Plex way “Moviename (releaseYear).fileextension”. Then let Plex lookup the metadata from there. I’ve had pretty good luck by doing that.
@OttoKerner has a lot of good posts on this subject.
This means that you have selected the ‘Personal Media’ agent as the default agent for this library.
Delete the library.
Recreate the library, pick as ‘Movies’ as type.
Make sure that Agent is set to ‘Plex Movie’ or ‘TheMoviedatabase’ and Scanner is ‘Plex Movie Scanner’.
I think you may be right. My issue here is that I’ve moved from Kodi, to iTunes, to Plex… and so far, Plex has the upper hand. But eventually I know, there can be a change. When that happens, I’d like to keep the internal tags to each movie.
So, say I remove the « Local Media Assets » agent and move it to the bottom… this means Plex won’t look inside the file for the internal tag, and instead will look to online sources to fill in the blanks? BUT this won’t overwrite the internal tag ?
It depends on whether you want your internal tags to be used preferably or not.
If you are 100% sure you have them correct, then leave the ‘Local Media Assets’ in the top position under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
as well as
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
If you however you know that the embedded meta tags are wrong or full of spam, do the opposite and move the ‘Local Media Assets’ line downwards.
Either way, Plex won’t touch the files.
All changes will only affect Plex’s own database.
