Different Movies Being Combined Into One

Server Version#: 1.26.0.1531-92029e9e (Mac)
Player Version#: 4.52.2

I just added the four Critters movies to my server. For some reason Critters 3 & Critters 4 get bunched together into one movie. Each is in their own folder and I’ve named the files according to the convention (e.g. critters 3 (1991).m4v and critters 4 (1992).m4v).

I’ve tried deleting both files, adding the additional {tmdbs-#} for clarification, and then adding them again, but the files are still entangled. How do I get Plex to see them as different files?

I have almost 800 movies in my library and have never had this problem before.

This looks like a Metadata Tags issue, you need to edit the tags in those m4v. Or you just change the container if all your clients like mkv with MKVToolNix which is very quick.

Thank you for such a speedy reply. I thought the metadata tags might be an issue. Sorry for my ignorance, but how do I edit the meta data tags?

Subler should work, can’t you use mkv? Plex ignores metadata in mkv, no more problem.

I’ve never done this before. I have no idea where to start.

Download here and just Multiplex the added file. It free to use

Just do this - and embedded title fields in MP4/M4V files won’t ever be a problem:

Yep - just like that - for all those tabs in Shows and Movies.

Thank you. I will try this now.

Thanks for the screenshot. I’m working on this now.

Also, I downloaded MKVToolNix. If this doesn’t work I’ll give that a shot.

I’m not 100% sure, but I believe if you are using the new “Plex Movie” agent and scanner, the order of the agents has no affect. If you are using the new agent and scanner (not Plex Legacy) you need to disable the option to “Prefer local metadata” in the advanced section when you edit the library.

You’ll likely need to “Refresh Metadata” on the movie and/or library to see the change.

They’ll drag me kicking and screaming from the agents I’m using now - that work perfectly with FileBot - but good info for those trailblazers seeking something completely different.

Yes, Refresh Metadata after the switchover is usually all it takes… we hope.

AWE-some! I just made the changes.

When you write “'Refresh Metadata” on the movie/and/or library" is that the same thing as “library scan” that happens when I click “SAVE CHANGES?” If not, where do I go to refresh the metadata on the whole library? I figure I’ll do it on the whole thing just to be safe. Also, I’ll restart the server when I’ve gone through all the suggestions here.

They’re not the same thing. Scan basically checks for new or deleted files/folders. Refresh gets the new metadata.
You should find Refresh Metadata on the the three dot thingy on the home page in Plex Web if you hover over the library name in the left column. Probably other ways to get to it, too,

Found it! Thanks.

@SE56 @JuiceWSA @leelynds I just tried to add Critters 3 and Critters 4 again and it worked this time. I’m not sure which solution “fixed” the problem (as I tried them all, except changing the metadata with MKVToolNix), but I want to thank you all for your help. Y’all ROCK!
