I’m trying to catalog a movie that spills onto 2 DVD disks. The PLEX database correctly identifies and presents metadata for the first file, but it mis-classifies the second file as another different title. Can someone clarify the process to include 2 .m4v in a single metadata package?
This article describes it in detail. But the short version is that the files should be named identically, save for a suffix identifying the disc/part number for each.
See “Movies Split Across Multiple Files” section.
However, you’ll be much better served by combining the two files into one movie. Plex handles that much better.

I see no point in jumping through hoops or changing naming to solve this kind of problem.
My solution is to rip each DVD separately and then I use any of a number of tools to join the two files together (I usually use “FreeMake” but that is mainly because I am used to it) and name the result as “MovieName (year).ext”.
By doing it that way I avoid all the problems and issues that the “two file” system produces. I keep all my naming as simple as possible and that way I only rarely have any recognition problems and, when I do have problems, it is usually due to the movie or film being rather old or obscure or both. I have several movies I have used this technique on and they all work fine.
