When I click on your media, it always asks me to Get Plex media server. I down load and install and the same thing happens all over again to get Plex media server. I’m caught in a loop of not being able to add my media to load into Plex.
You need to open the local / bundled version of Plex web in order to complete the installation and to link the server to your account. This will also walk you through some basic configuration tasks and allow the creation of your first libraries.
http://127.0.0.1:32400/web if you’re on the same machine as the server; http://[Plex Media Server ip address]:32400/web otherwise
Once your server is linked with your Plex account you will also be able to access it through the hosted version of Plex Web (http://app.plex.tv/desktop)
Thanks Tom for your reply. I have a previous account on Plex that I was able to add my library to. Now I’m on a different account that I bought the Lifetime for and I can’t add my library to. Do you know if I can transfer my lifetime account to the previous Plex installation? Thanks again. Willie
- Sign into your old (non-Plex Pass) account
- Open the server using its local IP address
- Go to
Settings>[Server Name]>General - Click
Sign Out(=signing out from the server) - Click on your account icon on the top-right and click
Sign out(=signing out from the account) - Sign in with your Plex Pass plex account
- Repeat steps #2+3
- Click
Sign inand link the server to your Plex (Pass) account
If your browser is a little ignorant to you signing out you might want to change browsers before starting with steps #6-8.
Instead of performing steps #1-4 you can also manually unlink your server by following the procedure from the below support article. This can be useful if you forgot the login details of the account currently linked to your server.
Thanks again Tom. This worked and it shows my library folders but when I click on them I get the following " There was an unexpected error loading this library

Any idea on this one?
Have you tried rebooting the server after you changed the ownership?
Thanks so much for your help Tom. You got me up and running! Willie.
