hi
look I’m guessing this has been covered, but I’m totally new to this I don’t understand a lot of the jargon so pls bare with me and thank you in advance for your patience with this noob.
basically I’ve got new devices which I am able to access my plex library with, but I can’t figure out how to add new media or libraries from these devices and obviously have searched everywhere and can’t find anything that is helping me, surely I’m able to do this? or am I only able to add media from my original device?
any help would be greatly appreciated thx
Have you read the FAQs on setting up your server?
thx for your reply but, I don’t understand it man, is there a link for youtube that can help me with setting up a new server?
I thought I needed to setup a new server, but seriously I’m dum man I need simple layman instructions not i.t. people instructions I don’t even know what a Nvidia shield is, I work ALOT and don’t can’t spare the time to learn, I wish I did, I hate this and when I do have time Its not enough to achieve anything, surely it can’t be to hard, once again thank you
There are several official youtube videos such as these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCGM9xGBPQ0&t=5s
Though there is no need to setup a new server if you already have one running to which you can connect and watch stuff from. You add libraries to this existing server instance (through Plex Web, which confusingly is also a client), not from the clients you access it with.
Open Plex Web - https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200288666-Opening-Plex-Web-App
Create new library - https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200288926-Creating-Libraries
Remember that there is no need to add (though you can, some do it intentionally) several libraries for each Movie, for each TV show or such. If you create a folder on your PC called C:\Movies\ to which you point your Movie library to and put your new movie there, it will automatically be found by Plex. Your job is getting the file from your client to the PC that hosts Plex Media Server and put it there.
dude I know how to add libraries all that basic ■■■■, I’ve used streaming clients for years, and having used them for years I figured moving it wwoukdnt be difficult, so I got a passover cable (because I can’t continue to use my old original device its full and super slow) transferred all the data deleted Plex and installed it on my new client? is that what you call it? anyway I then found the video,
how to backup or move your flex media server. so obviously I didnt copy the localappdata file properly although I did copy it to my new machine as I followed the steps in the plex forum, although it seems super vague to me, anyway I’ve totally stuffed it up, also the video is for windows 10 and I’m moving from a windows 10 machine to windows 7 and for whatever reason I can’t just right click and compress files like it says in the video, so theres bunch of little stuff like that in the video I don’t know how to do, same with a lot of people who’ve watched the video and they’ve posted questions to flex on the video and haven’t had a response in over a year, so what am I meant to do, stop at every point and post on here and wait a day for a response? I don’t understand why someone from plex can’t help me step by step, I’m paying for this service, unlike Kodi servio ums or any of the other dlna streaming services, again is that correct jargon I dunno.
anyway I know how to do all the basic crap of which there seems to be endless videos on yet for the harder stuff its as rare as hens teeth.
Sad to hear that you got upset with my reply. My sincerest apologies. To quote from your first post
but I’m totally new to this I don’t understand a lot of the jargon so pls bare with me and thank you in advance for your patience with this noob.
Lead me to believe you were on a lower level of experience than you now state. It was not my intent to make it sound like as if you were ‘dumb’ or such.
Your first post further discloses
but I can’t figure out how to add new media or libraries from these devices
To which I replied (in the not-so-good manner explained above).
You now want to know
how to backup or move your flex media server.
And that is explained over here - https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201370363-Move-an-Install-to-Another-System
bro no, I dint mean you were implying I was dum, sorry if it came across that way, I’m just dum enough to know the basics but not really across the lingo hence not explaining myself properly, so again I’m sorry and really appreciate your help regardless, but I’m just not advanced enough for whatever reason to follow these guides provided by plex
the reason I said I’m totally new to this is I need a more dumbed down guide than the ones flex has provided as I’ve tried to follow them without any success.
I have problems with copying from source system I find those next 3 steps very vague for someone with my limited competence, I ended up copying the local appdata file but didn’t do the regedit step properly and so I figured I just start fresh on my new device and deleted flex after moving all my content to the new device, but after I deleted flex from the destination device and reinstalled it again it keeps looking to populate from my old device and obviously can’t find it and therefore is just continually looking for it, I would of thought there was a way to direct it to look or sorry connect to my new device so I can direct it where to look for my libraries, but I can’t seem to find out how to do that
OMFG I just downloaded the plex app to my MacBook, and once I installed it it found my Mac server straight away and therefore I was able to create a new server with new content from that specific device WTF??? this is what I thought should happen all along, so why isn’t it working on my new windows 7 pc?? anyway again thank you for your help and I wasn’t upset with your response and am very appreciative
