I opened Plex Preview, selected a movie from “Continue Watching” on my server, tapped “Resume”, and an ad for a car dealership played. I have a lifetime Plex Pass subscription. What gives?
Also of note: The ad was originally landscape, then stretched vertically to portrait, then rotated back into landscape against the top-left corner of the screen. It looked ridiculous.
Neither server nor apps have any ability to inject ads into server “self hosted” content. The only server content that would have ads is DVR recordings where commercials were not stripped out.
How ad-supported content got into your CW if you were not watching it is another question I will have to ask folks about.
If you don’t have any plans to use our ad-supported content though, you can disable “Movies & Shows” at https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources
It’s a movie I personally ripped from a Blu-Ray, in a regular movie library, streamed over my LAN. I don’t know what else to tell you, there was an ad preroll. I’ve tried replicating it but I haven’t been able to.
What movie if I may ask?

make sure your movie library is pinned/favorited to home and if you have it pinned re-order it so it is above any Plex sources that are pinned ( or disable the Plex Movies & Shows source). Pinned content is what determines what is in the home screen CW
Prerolls are a server feature though you would have had to intentionally enable them.
When playing any particular content for the first time from our ad-supported stuff, the preroll should, afaik always be one of our Plex branded prerolls ads like this before it gets ads from car dealerships or wherever. if you stop then come back to it later then yeah a car dealer ad could happen
It’s definitely streaming from my server, it’s at the quality I transcoded. It comes up in Plex Dash when I stream it. I don’t have a car dealership ad as one of my prerolls, they’re all the old Plex logo with various Christmas/winter imagery because I’ve never updated them.
Okay, usually when I see posts like this the movie/show is also available on Plex free on demand, but “Spiritied Away” Looks like it’s a rental item. Hopefully it’s a fluke, and I have this post bookmarked for when I see these threads Why am i getting ads on my own Content? - #2 by shark2k
