Can you make a video of the entire process, from opening the app while on wifi all the way through to the crash? I want to make sure I am following the exact same steps you are. Also, have you tried making a new playlist? Since I have no older playlists, just a brand new one, maybe that’s part of the problem that I can’t replicate.
For Pete’s Sake. I went to make the video and 4 times in a row, it did NOT crash! I turned the video off, and it crashed immediately after! I will store a log for it working as well so I have both.
The playlist has 4,300 items in it. I have another with 10,000+ songs and it works good too. But it may be the SMART playlists that are the issue?
What changes did you guys do to music/playlists in this current build? Maybe that should be alerted to help us look? Meaning, if zero playlist changes occurred, maybe it is a server change that we should be identifying?
I’ll add all of the music I have to the Plex Server, and see if I can make a playlist that will kill the app. Going to be a while until it all gets added.
Okay, here is the video. I believe I was actually not just pressing pause, but was pressing the X. In the video, I specifically pressed the X on the notification to make it clear what I was doing.
So, it really seems to be narrowed down on my side now. Keep in mind, this was noticed only when getting into the car to start playing music, so it’s not like I am sitting here closing apps for fun all the time. Ha ha.
I just followed along with your video, doing everything you did, and I can’t get it to crash. Have you tried making a new playlist with 4000+ songs, to see if a brand new playlist crashes the app?
Oh, and I don’t work for Plex, so I have no idea what changes were made.
Oh sorry! Thought you did! Ha ha. You were right before on me pressing the X. That seemed to be the ticket to crashing. I believe that makes sense because I got home yesterday at 3pm and didn’t want the Plex notification hanging around the whole day so I X’d it out and then this morning it crashed. So, yeah, I think the Xing out is the key to it crashing.
Give it a shot, and thanks for helping me figure this out!

No, but I can give that a shot. What device are you using?
So, I just tried it on my Nexus 6P and it also did not occur. However, I am having a 100% success rate of duplicating the issue on the Samsung products right now.
This could be a Samsung related problem.
Yet ANOTHER reason why these phones suck. Ha ha. Pixel 2, please come out soon!
The crash no longer occurs, but a network change forces the current song to stop playing until the app is either closed and restarted, or I have to start playing the playlist over again. Happens on all Android devices. In the event that the song was 100% cached, then the next song will not start.
It makes me think the issue revolves around the fact that the device is connected to the “local” server and then once leaving the “local” status, can not restart the stream since it has to reconnect to the server again as a remote server. There needs to be a soft hand-off instead of the hard hand-off.
Anyone? I’m wondering if no one is relying because no one really uses Plex Music as much?
Happens 100% of the time on 100% of devices (Android) and 6 different Plex Servers so it’s not an isolated situation. However, unless someone is using Plex on and off the network, they won’t notice. So, is that what’s going on? No one is using Plex to start playing music and then continue when they leave home?
