I can confirm the same thing. Windows server 1.19.3.2831 running on Windows 7 32-bit (don’t judge). I emptied trash, cleaned bundles, optimized the database, shut down PMS, removed ALL log files, started PMS, started an ‘Analyze’ on my TV Shows library, got the “Plex Media Scanner has crashed” message, shut down PMS, and grabbed the logs. Nothing of note in there…at least not from my perspective. Also grabbed the crash log from the Windows Event Log.

Sorry are we talking about scanner crashing or the whole server crashing?

In my case, it was just the Plex Media Scanner. The remainder of the server processes remained running. And only when performing an ‘Analyze’ on the whole library. No crash happens when doing an analyze at the show/season/episode level. Though, there is no indication that analysis is actually happening.

Plex Media Server crashes and I have to restart it. Mine crashes when I analyze a single episode, a whole season or the whole tv show. Plex Media Sever shuts down and I have to restart it. I don’t know what log is actually needed so I sent them all. Scanning the libraries works fine.

I’ve fixed an issue where the main server process crashes. It’s only affecting a very small number of users. I’ll be pushing the release within the next few hours.

One issue we identified was on Windows with < 2008 hardware. What CPU are you using?
@rflick - I just checked your logs. Your issue will be fixed with the next update (in a few hours)

I’m running Windows 10 and the server’s crashing too every time I analyze one season. The CPU I’m using is a Intel Xeon CPU X5460 @ 3.16GHz

@StSimm1 Thank you so much for the quick fix. I can’t wait to use the new feature. The people at Plex are great and thank you for such a great product.

@StSimm1 Got new update and I am testing it now. I will let you know if it fixed my issue asap.

Mod-Edit: added link to release announcement

@StSimm1 still crashes PMS.

The update did not fix my problem either. My CPU is an Intel Core i7-4770. Again, 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Additionally, if I perform an analyze at a show level, there is no crash but I also do not see any status in the Dashboard area like in the screen shot above.

Player Version 4.34.2
Server Version 1.19.3.2843

Processors that I have in my server: 2 - Intel Xenon E5450 Quad Core 3.00 GHz

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-05-21_08-43-45.zip (3.6 MB)

Behavior: When I pick 1 episode to scan (or a season), the notification/progress instead indicates that the whole season is being scanned and sends me 3 alerts that the episode finished immediately. The progress bar for the season never advances and spins indefinitely. Yesterday upon trying to play anything while this happened, the entire Plex Server would crash.

As of 1.19.3.2843 (today) it no longer seems to crash, but still just spins indefinitely, never generating intro metadata

Windows 10 Enterprise 64 Bit
Intel Core i5 7260U 2.2GHz
Plex Server 1.19.3.2843

Edit: scratch that, it still crashes the whole server when I try to play content after a failed episode/season “Analyze” - so something so still very wrong with this release and fix, unfortunately.

Could anyone share their crash dump?

Or restart their server a few times until the “Plex Crash Uploader.log” says it succeeded. (Sorry!)

Because my case only crashes the Plex Media Scanner, I don’t have a crash dump to share. Only the relatively empty logs from my first post and the Windows Event Log entry, that is also lacking good information. Refer back to those attachments.

UPDATE: It appears that a sub-folder is created in the Crash Reports folder, but there is nothing in any of the sub-folders (PLEX MEDIA SCANNER, PLEX MEDIA SERVER, PLEX TUNER SERVICE).

@rwhapham - your issue looks a little different. If you roll back to 1.19.2 (https://artifacts.plex.tv/plex-media-server-stable/1.19.2.2737-b69929dab/windows/PlexMediaServer-1.19.2.2737-b69929dab-x86.exe) and re-run analyze, does it crash?

I rolled back to the version you attached, and performed a library-level analyze. No crash. I can see the Plex Media Scanner process running in Task Manager, but no indication in the status area of the Plex web UI, though. I thought analyze showed something in there, but I might be mis-remembering.

Here’s the Plex Media Scanner Analysis log after it completed (version 1.19.2 rollback), in case that helps:

Plex Media Scanner Analysis.log (73.1 KB)

@rwhapham - can you try on a whole library with 1.19.2 THEN on a single episode of 1.19.3 and send me the logs?

@rflick- Can you try on another show? I see this show starting to process, but failing after a few seconds. Are there any multi-episode files?

@StSimm1, here you go (and thank for the prompt investigation on this one). Here’s what I did:

  • Shut down PMS 1.19.2
  • Deleted ALL log files
  • Started PMS 1.19.2 and performed a library-level analyze
  • Waiting for analyze to finish, and shut down PMS 1.19.2
  • Installed PMS 1.19.3.2843
  • Performed an analyze on a single episode
  • For completeness, performed a library-level analyze
  • Plex Media Scanner crashed
  • Shut down PMS and grabbed all logs (but installer logs)

@rwhapham - Can you open a new forum thread for your issue? Your logs look crazy to me, but it’s certainly not skip intro related.

Feel free to ping me in it and I’ll help you out over there (later/tomorrow, as I’m over in the UK and need to eat!)
