I appreciate that it’s no help in solving the problem with the code (if, indeed, that’s the problem) but a quick search of the forums for “CPU” shows quite a few users, all on 5488 or later, reporting 100% utilisation of one CPU core issues on a variety of platforms: Shield, Windows, Mac, Ubuntu/Linux, XPEnology/Linux, Synology/Linux. A few of them have reported the issue being resolved by reinstalling 5470 (or earlier).
I appreciate this isn’t a “rampant” issue and it’s obviously not affecting everyone, but thanks for taking the time to investigate in this thread, @ChuckPa . The users elsewhere seem to have been somewhat ignored.
I upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04, where Plex worked perfectly well for a long time now, to Ubuntu 18.10. After upgrading, I noticed that Plex is now hogging one CPU-core at 100% at all times – it’s literally not doing anything actively, there is no one watching anything, there is no scanning going on, no refreshing of metadata, no generating any thumbnails or anything. The process taking up all the CPU is /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex Media Server, not the scanner or anything else.
I did enable deb…

Plex is using 100% of one of my CPU cores. Movie thumbnail generation disabled.
EDIT: CPU usage is @ 100% with absolutely nothing in the library. (Fresh Install)
If I delete all of the libraries, cpu usage is still at 100%. If PMS is restarted after everything is deleted, CPU usage drops to 0. If the libraries are re-added, CPU usage is still 0 until PMS is restarted (which resumes @ 100% again).
No activity - not sure why it’s chewing up…
PMS on Windows 7, i5 3470. Constant 25% CPU usage. Process hacker shows thread using 25% CPU at C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ucrtbase.dll with Plex Media Server.exe. No media playing.
Tried repair installation, but did not resolve CPU issue. Tried downgrading to 1.14.0.5470. CPU issue gone.
Steps:
Uninstall Plex using control panel.
Obtain older installation from C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates
Install older version.

Since running the latest upgrade to the server after playing anything on a client, I return to my desktop and find the MacBook fans are spinning at full tilt and activity monitor shows that Plex server is using up 99% of the CPU.
It will also randomly start this CPU process even when I am not watching anything. Every morning I find the server freaking out.
What is going on and how can I fix it?

My main server (AMD quad-core machine) has constant 25%CPU (1 core) from Plex Media Server.exe *32 in task manager. It doesn’t happen immediately when I start PMS, but some time later (in 10s of minutes) it begins and never ceases. I tried removing and old version of MS Visual C redist but that didn’t help, I removed an old folder from the plugins folder, but that didn’t help either. I’ve read and attempted most of the fixes in forum posts a…
