Agent no longer matching any new tv media

I can no longer seem to get Plex to match new shows. Movies match properly and so do new episodes in existing library items.

The show appears in TVDB but the library scan always returns “No matches”

I tried searching for it as “tvdb-######” and still nothing.

The only thing that seems to work is to edit the library, change the agent or scanner to one of the “legacy” ones and run a scan. Then it matches and updates the metadata, and once that happens, I can switch it back to get rid of the notification about requiring a library update.

Any ideas? It was working find up until a couple of server updates ago. I kept hoping a new update would bring the functionality back but I just updated to a new version this morning and still nothing.

Probably a DNS thing but your server logs after adding something would help determine what ay be going on.

Well, I don’t think it was a DNS issue. I just ran the latest update from the Beta channel and with Plex server now at v1.42.1.10060, the problem seems to be fixed.

I tried loading two different shows to generate the logs but they both matched and updated as expected.

@robrieniii If you want to give that a shot, maybe you can confirm that v1.42.1.10060 fixed it for you?

are you using the modern agent or a legacy agent? There is a known issue with the legacy in the most recent version.

It was the modern that didn’t work. I would add a new show and run a scan. It would pick it up but it would be unmatched. When I went to match, it would have no results, and even if I entered the exact “tvdb-xxxxxx” in the search for the show id, it would still come back with nothing. I would then switch to a legacy agent, get my match immediately, then switch it back to the modern (which worked fine getting data when new episodes came in).

Ok, gonna ask for some semi-complex steps for re-creating this with a good set of logs.

  1. move all files for the media item out of the directory your Library is looking at, so Plex will not “see” it anymore

  2. scan the library library (to detect changes)

  3. empty trash

  4. clean bundles (in the menu next to server name, when accessed under ‘More’. Or alternatively under Settings - [server name] - Manage - Troubleshooting.)

  5. Make sure that the scanner and agent are set to the modern versions

  6. stop plex

  7. Start Plex

  8. Wait 90 seconds

  9. Add files removed in step 1 back to your library

  10. Scan your library for changes

  11. Wait 5 minutes after the scan finishes and post your server logs

We will need to also know both a filename and the path of the show in question.
