Plex Media Server Logs_2025-04-22_09-47-28.zip (6.5 MB)
For the past few weeks, I can’t match any TV shows or Movies. It doesn’t auto match, and if I try to manually match it tells me No Matches Found. As a workaround, I can go to Edit Library | Advanced, and change the Agent from Plex Movie or Plex Series to The Movie Database or TheTVDB. Then, it will tell me Library Upgrade Required, which I tell it to upgrade. When I go back into the library, it’s always changed back to Plex Movie or Plex Series, and the library wants to upgrade again if I try to change it. But, after following that process, everything that was previously unmatched is matched by going through that process. But, I can’t Fix Match on anything, and nothing is matching automatically outside of that library edit process. I’ve attached my logs. It seems others are having similar issues recently. I’ve tried restarting everything several times. Any help is appreciated.
I have the same issue.
I have the same issue too.
However changing the agent back to the old/legacy version seems to solve it as they are still working.
This leaves an ugly read Question Mark in the corner to hint to update the scanners.
I assume there is something not working with the new scanners.
Most of these issues are to do with an inability to contact plex.tv for metadata.
Check these:
- your server machine must resolve all plex related domain names successfully. This sometimes requires to use the public DNS servers of either Google 8.8.8.8 or Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 – as opposed to the default DNS servers of your ISP
- disable VPNs, then stop and restart Plex server to see if it makes a difference
- While Plex server is started, it already needs to have a working internet connection.
- Don’t plug in or unplug network cables, or switch on or off Wifi adapters after Plex server has been alredy started
A word of warning: switching metadata agents and scanners of a library around willy-nilly can leave this library in a non-working state.
So don’t do that.
If you want to test a different agent, create a copy of a small subset of your media in a separate folder. Then create a new library and point it to that new folder.
@OttoKerner Not sure why any of the matters when some entries work and some fail entirely. Anime is the worst affected. The Plex plugins are fast but they simply suck for accuracy. The speed is irrelevant if the accuracy is off.
At least with the TVDB and MovieDB options I have a website I can go check against and if worst comes to worst they have an fix ID that I can use instead of a name. There is no feature like this in Plex.
In short the plex plug is not as useful and outright terrible in some situations.
It matters because the users above stated they are not getting any matching at all. You may have a different, even if related issue, if some things are matching for you
@patellison42 can you please disable verbose logging and reproduce again and get the server logs afterwards. Verbose adds too much additional stuff that makes it hard to find what may be issue
Thanks for the explanation that actually helped.
I have it running on a qnap and there was a network loss after the last update.
Restarting the plex server on the qnap resolved the connection issue.
The new agents are working proper now.
Thanks a lot!

Do you have a list of names that need to resolve? I’ve gone back and forth on this with @ChuckPa for another issue and so far, every DNS query has returned the proper expected results.
I also am having the issue of Plex not able to automatically match any movie that is added. Additionally when I try and manually match the movie I’m getting no response from any agent regardless of the agent selected. I have restarted the Plex Server and re-tried, but the issue is still occurring.
Been struggling with this very problem the last 2 days. cant get anything to match on its own or manually.
Edit: wanted to add that this was really bad in anime.
Also check for database corruption.
I’m also facing the same issue. I added a dozen new movies a month or so back with no issue - Plex matched everything automatically.
Now this week nothing I’ve added will match anything at all - I’m not getting any response at all no matter what I try. I have restarted my Plex server multiple times (both the Docker individually as well as the Unraid host) - hasn’t helped.
This is related to this: Legacy Agents Removed Already in PMS 1.41.7.9717 (2025-04-23) - #10 by drzoidberg33
Bug in the newer Plex Server releases. Setting your version back to 1.41.5.9522-a96edc606 should fix this.
Version 1.41.7 is a beta release. I’m not running beta releases - I’m on 1.41.6
Yeah I just tested on 1.41.6 and things seem to be working fine for me, didn’t realise mine had actually updated to a beta release.
However the issue I was having on 1.41.7 did exhibit itself in the exact same way DougWentz’s screenshot showed. Where the search results appear blank without it appear to ever actually search anything.
My son also has his own Plex server, and was not experiencing any issues with adding new movies. When we started comparing the Library Settings for movies, we discovered that my setup had the scanner set for Plex Movie Scanner, and the Agent was Plex Movie (Legacy). When I changed by settings for the Scanner and Agent both to Plex Movie, I could once again scan and manually match and fix movie titles.
It appears that the functionality of the legacy scanner and agent settings has been disabled.
They have not been intentionally disabled that would be a bug as described here.
I had previously been running the binhex DB repair process which didn’t help - so I tried the PlexDBRepaid tool linked to by @SwiftPanda16 - I just let it do the auto repair process - and that has fixed the matching issue for me.
For those still having issues, trying deleting your codecs and then restarting your plex server. This worked for me, and I haven’t had any issues since.

Thank you! This resolved the issue for me.
