Alexa - set player "Uh oh something went wrong"

my server has no vpn, plex is allowed through firewall - and says its fully accesible outside my network in plex server settings.

I can set my default server on alexa, but when i go to set default player i get “something went wrong”.

i’ve unlinked and linked skill several times. no luck.

thanks

We’re looking in to it.

Thank you!

Thank you. I have a home full of Google homes… if this skill works nicely I’m considering selling them all and getting an Alexa house.

Keen to see if this works well for others.

I have a similar problem. I either get the same phrase as above, or I’m told that my Plex server needs to have a “Secure Connection”, which it does. Alex says I’m supposed to contact Plex for more information.

Any ideas?

Thanks …

i never get that error. only the Uh oh message. I’ve tried connecting as main server plex account - ensuring my bravia android tv has plex open. i also have web player open and active but still get the same error.

Same problem here

Was it ever working for you stejus86?

We’ve identified the issue with changing players and a fix will be pushed out soon.

awesome thanks for the fast respond and turn around. does soon mean next sprint so 1/2 weeks?

I was going to wait until tomorrow but I found another issue with remote control commands being broken in some cases so I’m pushing 2 fixes out right now. Should be live shortly.

thank you.

working again for me.

@vanstinator i can’ tseem to get my Sony Android TV to be set as default player - guessing it’s just not supported? it shows up in plex as an available cast device from plex web (Plex for Android). I have the app open on the TV and it still cannot find it.

It finds chrome/my phone when i have them open fine. It’s sony tv with latest android installed including lastest plex update

thanks

UPDATE: after reading these forums i found removing and re auth the device fixes it. working really well now. fantastic work.

In some cases force quitting (or doing a reauth) can help.

All sorted - thank you so much…

This is an awesome skill. Loving it. Can you please confirm if you must link to your main Plex account for it to work ?

Also any plans on future roadmap for supporting different users based on Amazon voice profile ?

You can link any Plex account that has access to your server, but only 1 at a time. Managed users are not supported and we currently have no plans to do so.

To be honest I’m not totally sure how that works. I presumed it was all on Amazons side of things. My wife and I have an Amazon household and voice-training set up. I’d be happy to test it over here and see what happens. If it doesn’t “Just Work” I’m not sure if or when we might prioritize any development resources to make it work though.

EDIT: Just tested it. Say Alexa, switch my account to ACCOUNT_NAME (if you have an Amazon household set up) and you’ll switch to that Alexa profile. That individual can set up their own skills. It also appears as if it only switches profiles on that specific device. So your partner/child could have their profile in one room and you in another and both would be linked to their respective Plex accounts.

interesting thanks for testing. So if you had your main tv and an alexa in that room you could switch profiles and then link different plex accounts to those amazon profiles? or are you saying you need to have them defaulted on different alexa’s in different rooms?

You can switch Alexa profiles and then link a Plex skill for each.

yep that sounds like it will work exactly as i’d hope (except for automatically switching based on profile but i’ll hope you eventually get that on your back log  )

thanks
