[Alexa] Update on Playback Issues

If I look on alexa.amazon.co.uk and check “Your Skills” the Plex skill is not showing as updated recently? How do I know I have the latest version or force and update?

I disabled and then re-enabled. This definitely updated the skill. Before I did this I wasn’t sure if it had been automatically updated.

We pushed a hotfix to the server so your Alexa store won’t reflect it. We pushed another hotfix today adjusting our timeline parameters we send to PMS. We based it off the PMS logs @Geoff555 provided us. If anyone has audio cut out prematurely from this point forward please provide a fresh set of logs so we can continue looking at the issue.

Just tested again after disabling/ re-enabling the Alexa Plex Skill, I had 10 or so drop outs in a ~10 minute period when playing FLAC material on my Gen 2 Echo. Will DM link to logs.

There was a bug in the deploy yesterday. I fixed it today and re-deployed. Very interested to see if it continues to happen.

Please see my latest post in this thread @vanstinator (https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/296059/amazon-echo-does-not-play-music-tracks-to-end#latest)

I’m still having playback issues, the latest update today did seem a slight improvement.

@timw2000 Please let me know if you have further issues. A hotfix went out last night and my production logs show no transcodes have died overnight.

@vanstinator Interesting that the m4a format iTunes files are not Direct Playing, rather than transcoding and working fine. Was this change based on a Media Server Update or a Skill update? Not had a lot of time to test and unable to find any transcode format music yet. Any file types I should look for to test? Thanks for the support! Tim.

We’re using the PMS MDE now and sending an augmented profile over rather than using our old internal MDE for most things. I’d have to check the new profile against the old one to see what’s different. To be clear you’re saying m4a files are no Direct Played when before they were transcoding?

@vanstinator. Correct, my m4a files were being transcoded, now they are direct playing

We’re now falling back to a relay connection if we think music playback failed due to a NAT loopback failure. This won’t solve the issue for everyone but we’re logging instances where it still fails so we can track internally. We’ve got further work happening to resolve this better.

Looking forward to a full fix for an issue that i assume is due to this NAT loopback failure: Alexa can see the server, recommend things, but then the dreaded “Cannot access your Plex skill” message comes up when she tries to play the recommendation.

I am having the same issue still. Whenever I try to play any audio through the Plex skill, it tells me that it’s “having trouble accessing my Plex skill.” Recognizes the server and everything and gives me recommendations for music, but won’t play any of that music.

The “having trouble accessing your skill” is an error Amazon throws, not Plex. Our app cluster hasn’t gone down at all so I don’t know why Alexa would be having issues seeing our skill. I see both of you tried playing back media and then AVS closing the session immediately after. So our skill at least saw the request come in and tried to respond with a playback directive to AVS.

Interesting. Puts me into something of a bind as Alexa support weren’t too helpful and sent me here: “We’re more than willing to help you sorting this issue out but outside of the current troubleshooting instructions for the skill in the Alexa app or on the detail page, we don’t have more information about this skill. I’m sorry for any inconvenience. I recommend you to contact the skill developers through the below links.” Now i’m in a different kind of loopback failure

Mine has gone from “having trouble accessing your skill” to “I couldn’t find music by the artist [insert singer name here] on your Plex server”.
The strange thing is that when I first got the Echo Dot (Black Friday sale last year) it worked perfectly!

Why is there no response to this?

The Alexa skill now says that I have no media on my server even though the android and web apps give me access to my 53Gb of music!!! Feredback please?

My problem started with just being able to play music (this was back in January) but I could access video content. Since then it has progressed to any request to the Plex skill results in “Sorry, I am having trouble accessing your Plex skill right now”. I don’t know if the problem is with Amazon or Plex but I’d appreciate seeing it fixed.

I tried this again yesterday. I got the “Sorry I am having trouble accessing your server” (Which was online and available). So i rebooted the echo and removed and enabled the Plex skill. The server then could be located but now when I request it to play a song all i get is playing radio and still no sound.

Its highly frustrating !
