After setting the permission is Plex able to browse the sub folders?
You should only get another prompt. This is the nature of Linux. It is very terse unless there are errors.
Yes, that’s the idea.
To add to Webtweakers reply,
By giving user plex permission to read the share in the GUI, you’ve put back those permissions which were through the administrators group. This is part of what I detailed and showed
To provide additional information on how Synology works:
Finally got latest version working, was complete messup with permissions. My multimedia folder is used for samba, sabnzb and other stuff.
Using the commands that where advised might be ok for some setups but not all. Took me hours of messing about to get this working manually changing permissions on folders.
A thought if I may?
For each of those tools (Sab, Nzb, et al), if they run as a username (which you create via the Control Panel), then you won’t need to use the command line for permission management.
What really work is:
Go to FileStation, right click on the Folder -> propierties, then set permissions for user plex
Same here. I can’t believe this isn’t documented yet.
I cannot believe that such a fundamental change was buried in an update version 1.15.4.994
I make a tiny incremental update to my Synology Plex server and it completely (and predictably) breaks the whole thing
Unbelievable !
So many versions later, and after countless posts, I’m NEVER amazed at the inability of folks to read announcements, search the forum, or just call out to us. We’re always here.
THANK YOU for this - forgot to go in and update permissions on my NAS - You rock, man!
This change is significant enough that it breaks the application for a majority of people with DSM who upgrade.
For the casual user, this upgrade basically means that their Plex server is no longer working, and they will simply uninstall it.
There needs to be a notification presented to the user in the UI to inform them of how to fix it.
This should have been done prior to the update.

That’s because your average user doesn’t read forums.
By accusing your users of being stupid and irresponsible, you’re not helping to fix things, you’re just alienating yourself to your userbase.
