[Solved] ALL movies no longer play after update to PMS v1.15.3.835 (s1001 error)

Server Version#: 1.15.3.835 (MacOS)
Player Version#: Web Client 3.93.0

I updated to the PMS v1.15.3.835 earlier today and ever since then all movies in all libraries display this message when I try to play the video file in the web client:

Playback Error
An error occurred trying to play "%2Flibrary%2Fmetadata%2F847380".
Error code: s1001 (Network)

Every movie gives this exact same error and also while it’s trying to play, “%2Flibrary%2Fmetadata%2F847380” shows as the movie’s title in the bottom of the screen (the same thing shown in the error dialogue).

When I look at the logs I see things like this:

The files do not play successfully from any device (iOS, tvOS, Xbox One, etc.).
TV and Music work fine. It’s ONLY movies and it is ALL movies.
These movies span many different folders.
All the movie folders have wide open chmod (777) and chown permissions.
I’ve tried the Plex Dance (remove all files, update the library, move the files back, update the library).
I’ve tried deleting my Movies library and creating a new one.
I’ve tried restarting the NAS that the files reside on.
I’ve tried restarting the Mac that PMS runs on.
I have tried repairing the database.
I tried deleting the database and starting a new database with new libraries from scratch.
All of these files play fine in VLC and they’ve worked for many years.

UPDATE: I downloaded the latest non-PlexPass version of PMS (v1.15.2.793) and the bug goes away. As soon as I download the latest version of PMS (v1.15.3.835), the issue is back. I can no longer play movies. I am highly confident I’ve taken the right steps to isolate this issue and I believe this is a bug with the latest Plex build. Has anyone else experienced this problem? This is the first time I can remember where the PlexPass version broke like this.

UPDATE 2: Clearing the Movie Pre-Roll Video field under Settings > General resolved the problem for me!

Having the same issue, but “downgrading” to non-plex pass version didn’t fix it for me. I’ve attached my logs, can you tell if I am in the same boat or something else is wrong?

Same issue on 3 different PMS’s running on Mac Mini’s.

Downgrading to PMS v1.15.2.793 solved the problem for me.

Same exact issue. Can’t play movies on any devices. TV shows and music work fine. Hopefully an update with the fix is available soon.

The same problem occur with me after upgrading to version 1.15.3.835-5d4a5c895 (Linux Ubuntu 18.04), I tried everything. I finally decided to downgrade to version 1.15.2.793-782228f99 and everything started working normal again. I decided to skip version 1.15.3.835.

I’m having this issue as well. How do you downgrade on a Windows server.

Same issue here on PMS Version 1.15.2.793 (Windows 7).

On my linux server, i was able to execute the install for 1.15.2.793-782228f99 the software downgrade itself.

There’s a new release out today and the changelog seems like it might fix this issue. Has anyone dared to try?

I have the same issue. When I update to . 835 it breaks. However uninstalling and reinstalling .793 fixes it. I’m going to try . 858 which just came out.

Holding my breath… Nope . 858 broke it again. Reinstalling . 793 now. After reinstalling . 793 things are working again. That makes two updates post . 793 both which break ability to play movies. Hope they resolve this soon.

I tried the new update and this issue persists.

Just installed new update on (Linux/Ubuntu 18.04) it broke again, reinstalled 1.15.2.793-782228f99. :disappointed_relieved::disappointed_relieved::tired_face:

I am also having the same issue as reported above. Later today I will downgrade to see if that helps.

I did the hotfix update and it fixed it, but only for several hours… Now it’s doing same error again.

Same issue but I noticed that if a movie was partially played in my library I could continue watching with no error. Only starting from beginning or unplayed cause s1001 error.

Same here, seemed like after analyzing video some worked for a few hours yesterday but then stopped again. Infuse can play from the plex server but all of the plex apps are crashing or the web app you can skip the error.

Edit: I’m running from docker not mac

Sorry didn’t mean to flag your post. Slip of my finger, can’t seem to unflag it. Also I agree… staff needs to look at this. Stuck on .793.
