All new shows adding with a date of 2036-02-07 (Plex TV Series Agent)

Server Version#: 1.26.2.5797
Player Version#: 4.76.1

As of today all new shows (and a couple of old ones) are being scanned correctly but then getting adding into Plex with an episode date of February 7th 2036.

I checked both IMDB and TMDB (where I believe the Plex TV Series Agent combines its sources?) and in every case these sources are correct. But Plex then enters the same garbage date.

Just for example - Fresh off the Boat S01E03 added with the 2036 date, but on both IMDB and TMDB they correctly list 10 February 2015. This is true of a dozen other examples I went through to check. Doesn’t seem to matter if the show is brand new or decades old.

A manual refresh of the metadata hasn’t worked. Am I presuming some kind of local database glitch or is there a known fault that I can look into?

Thank you,

Do you have prefer local metadata enabled?

That’s a very interesting date. It’s one of the Unix epoch time rollover dates.

Does that happen when you Refresh Metadata on the show in Plex?
What happens if you manually edit the date on the show in Plex?

Thanks for your responses!

Well, simple answers are usually the best - Dbirch you got it in one. I don’t remember ever ticking the box in the first place, but it was indeed set to prefer local metadata. Not sure why it suddenly started showing this symptom, as it’s presumably been set on that for quite some time, but that did it. After switching it off, and refreshing metadata again, it’s back to normal.

Just to test it, I toggled the setting back on and refreshed metadata a second time and it went back to the 2036 date.

And Volts, good spot regarding the Unix bug. I’m guessing Plex had started finding something in the local folder that confused the hell out of the part of the scanner that detects dates. There’s technically nothing in there (not even hidden) so it’s odd.

At least it was a quick fix!

Edit: Further information a couple of episodes still don’t correct themselves. Upon further investigation it seems it’s because those episodes don’t pull any metadata from the scanner (the shows themselves do) so it’s almost as if my Plex has started using the 2036 date as a default ‘blank’ entry. Why those episodes are failing to populate with metadata is another issue, but it’s literally only one or two across tens of thousands so I’ll monitor it but not too concerned for now.

Im betting the embedded metadata for those shows is non-standard values so plex miss-parses it leading to a value beyond the normal date range. Im betting if you plex dance those files it fixes it. The values where set and since the episodes are not matching with known records, it continues to use the stored values for release date.
