Oh. Looks like you have it set to automatically scan the library when changes are seen. I don’t think this is going to work well when using a Synced drive. The delay of when a file is going to be available is going to mess with the scanning. I would turn that off and set it to run on a schedule instead. This will minimize when files being inaccessible.
ok - i turned off instant scan and set periodic scan to 1 hour. even then the second and further scans should be updates with the correct information - yes? so what can we do about the files being in incorrect order and sometimes missing from the play list? thanks!
brad
one additional item of note - the plex server machine only requires 1-2 seconds to copy the file into the sync folder - it does not need to be downloaded from OneDrive because the same machine is doing the download in another folder - it is simply copied locally from one folder to another on the same SSD drive. So i don’t think delay of download is a factor here - the copy would be the same manually as it is automated. please advise how we can further debug this issue. thanks!
brad
It depends on when the scan is done. As long as the file is inaccessible, there could be issues.

Issue with playlist? Have you mentioned that before? Anyways from what I’m seeing in the logs, it looks like the app is losing track of those files sometimes and then adding it back. I see where it’s re-adding those S2 episodes but as new items. My guess is it has to do with OneDrive and these files being inaccessible at times.
So I don’t think delay of download is a factor here
I don’t think it’s the file being copied to this folder. I think it’s OneDrive syncing back up to the cloud. This makes the files inaccessible while this is bein uploaded. I was seeing delays of 3-5 minutes. Does that sound about right for how long it should take these files to upload based on your internet speed?
hi
It depends on when the scan is done. As long as the file is inaccessible, there could be issues.
i am referring to after the file has fully transferred - then it should scan correctly - yes?
Issue with playlist? Have you mentioned that before?
yes - see above - incorrect names (happening now) out of order (happening now) missing files (happened many times before). For missing files i have to keep renaming them until they show up - that is why COPY appears in one filename.

this is not the case as they are downloaded on the local SSD drive - the same one that has the folder plex is watching - so we are not talking about a partial download here - when the download is complete it is copied from one SSD folder to another on the same drive - then it is synced UP to Onedrive. there is never a time when they are inaccessable - only a time when they are in the process of being copied and therefore incomplete. The files are not coming FROM a onedrive folder - they are locally copied. Can you accept the video files yourself to try them? what would make the title completely wrong? wrong thumbnail as well?
I don’t think it’s the file being copied to this folder. I think it’s OneDrive syncing back up to the cloud.
no, it works as described above - 1-2 seconds to copy the file at most.
This makes the files inaccessible while this is bein uploaded.
uploading to onedrive does not cause any file to be locked or inaccessable.
I was seeing delays of 3-5 minutes. Does that sound about right for how long it should take these files to upload based on your internet speed?
i have gigabit internet and it’s fast. now while i have been testing there have been downloads from the cloud - but newly added shows are not downloaded, they are copied from another folder on the same SSD drive.
so what can i do to eliminate any onedrive issues on this plex server to show you that the issue still exists? i can manually copy them to the plex folder then get logs after that? maybe record a video of the process?
regardless the subsequent scans should fix the files and they are still broken so i still need these issues resolved - the file names are still incorrect as of now. thanks for your help thus far!
i don’t know how other people do it but this is the best way i could figure to avoid swapping memory sticks daily.
let me know - thanks.
brad
Yes, but keep in mind that with that previous setting enabled, PMS will start scanning right away and that is where I think the issues are coming from.
For missing files i have to keep renaming them until they show up - that is why COPY appears in one filename.
Again, I’m guessing this is due to the scanning being done when a change is seen. It sees the copy as soon as it’s written so it ends up using that before you get a change to rename it.
uploading to onedrive does not cause any file to be locked or inaccessable.
Are you sure on that? It would be bad and confusing to OneDrive if the file changed while it was being uploaded. I’m guessing there is a lock.
This is your log from when things fixed themsselves.
Jan 07, 2022 09:32:23.514 [6452] DEBUG - Directory had 17 files, database had 13 files, can’t skip.
So PMS thinks there are only 13 files in the database, so it found 4 new ones.

Jan 07, 2022 09:32:23.841 [6452] DEBUG - Added new metadata item (9 1 1 S02e13) with ID 2016
You mentioned S2 already existed so something cause them to go missing from the database and PMS is now adding them back in. These files were accessible at the time so it looks like thet got organized with the correct name.
Plex creates a hint to files based on the filename. I’ll have to double check, but this might be the hint, without the dashes. It should then indicate no match found (since it’s not trying to match) and then end up using the filename. There may be a bug that if the file is inaccessible, it ends up keeping this hint. This is the only thing I can think of on where this naming is coming from.
Now with the option turned off to do the automatic scans. Things should be better but it will be hard to test since you can’t do any testing since OneDrive may still be holding the files. The only thing would be to turn off OneDrive temporarily and do a refresh metadata for the library.
If that doesn’t work, might need a full Plex Dance for the affected files.
hi - just verified - copied 4 shows to the plex folder - they are fully there 100% - not shown in library yet - did a library scan - wrong filenames (without dashes) makes them in the incorrect sort order. also i was able to play them while they are being synced to the cloud with onedrive - no issues. So Onedrive does not appear to play a part in these files and their behaviour in plex.
please advise what to try next.
brad
uploading to onedrive does not cause any file to be locked or inaccessable.
Are you sure on that?
yes - tested and no problem reading a file that is in the process of uploading to OneDrive - i don’t think onedrive is a factor here - i think it is these particular files - happy to send them to you for review.
It would be bad and confusing to OneDrive if the file changed while it was being uploaded. I’m guessing there is a lock.
no lock - it just starts upload over once you close it. i have seen this many times.
You mentioned S2 already existed so something cause them to go missing from the database and PMS is now adding them back in.
i keep moving them back and forth between two folders for this test purpose. they are still out of order with incorrect filenames.
These files were accessible at the time so it looks like thet got organized with the correct name.
at this time - still incorrect names - instant scan is off.
Plex creates a hint to files based on the filename.
i don’t know what a hint is - like a pointer? display name?
I’ll have to double check, but this might be the hint, without the dashes.
some do and some don’t?
It should then indicate no match found (since it’s not trying to match) and then end up using the filename. There may be a bug that if the file is inaccessible, it ends up keeping this hint. This is the only thing I can think of on where this naming is coming from.
again i can offer the files so you can add to your plex and see the results.
Now with the option turned off to do the automatic scans. Things should be better but it will be hard to test since you can’t do any testing since OneDrive may still be holding the files.
again i tested manual moving - no difference.
The only thing would be to turn off OneDrive temporarily and do a refresh metadata for the library.
ok so you are saying turn off onedrive - move some new files there and refresh - will do.
If that doesn’t work, might need a full Plex Dance for the affected files.
ok - will try.
brad
hi
ok - turned onedrive off (paused)
copied s03 episode to the plex folder
ran scan media
the show has the incorrect title and is out of order - see attachment.
i really think it is the video file information - not onedrive that shoud be the focus.
why would plex NOT use the filename of the video file when displaying the file in the show list?
please advise - thanks
brad
re: plex dance:
- move all files for the media item out of the directory your Library is looking at, so Plex will not “see” it anymore
done S03 moved
- scan the library library (to detect changes)
done
- empty trash
manage library - empty trash done
- clean bundles (in menu next to server name, when accessed under ‘More’)
done
- double check naming schema and move files back
file copied back - onedrive still off since last test
- scan the library
run - same result - s03 is before s02 and is using incorrect video file name. after scan completed -

Ok, still seeing it use the name without the dashes. Weird. Lets check the file.
Can you share that file in OneDrive and PM me a link?
sent - thanks! much appreciated!
brad
Got the file you sent. Something is definitely odd. I get the correct name. Notice the image is different. Your server must be getting the data from somewhere.
Can you PM me your database file?
Also, post the XML info for that episode.
i have no idea why my server would look elsewhere for media files not listed as tv shows - i just want to watch them - not create some massive library - just make it easy for my wife to use with the tv controller!
xml attached

i see the title is wrong in the xml - where does it get this title from? work that out and we should be good. thanks!
