I would also like to know if this was a mistake or if it were intentional and just not included in release notes.
OK, downgraded and still not an option. Seems to not be tied to a specific version release. My guess is there was threatened legal action so it was removed, but it would be nice to be notified of a major change like this.
enabling access on 1.11.3.4803 and then upgrading (will keep working after upgrade if enabled before)
observing via a MITM-program (e.g. Fiddler or ZAP) what request is made when ticking the box on 1.11.3.4803 and then manually sending this request after upgrade when necessary (or modified for a different friend)

You need to access the server via the internal network IP, not via plex.tv in order for the option to show up.
Thanks for the info. It seems they removed access on the backend recently. Even downgrading to 1.11.3.4803 does not return the option for me. Users already accessing this were cut off this morning. It was working as recently as yesterday. I have family on the other side of town that since the switch to digital cannot get TV reception because digital signals don’t bend around the mountain like the analog ones did. Disappointing.
I have just tested it with version 1.12.1.4871 but the option is still gone,
I used the share for my parents to watch my Cable TV but I not want them get HOME access ( not everything on the server is for my parents )
I want the the option back.

It is not it is gone after Upgrade
Actually if you downgrade like he says and go directly to local server IP versus plex web the box is still there and mine were even still ticked for the shared user, but it seems they removed it on the player side very recently because this was working up until yesterday even through two version upgrades on server side for me on Plex Pass Channel.

Adding users to your Home gives all of you a profile selection screen. This worked quite well with a girlfriend I had. Our experiences across services (Netflix, Hulu, Plex) became rather similar in this regard.
You can apply a 4 digit PIN to your own account, which adds some degree of security. Someone who is really bored, however, can go through all 1000 possible combinations and eventually crack this code. It’s also a bit of a pain in the butt to use every time you log in.

Not ideal… but a workable solution.
The problem is even with the pin that them have access to the configuration page so them can get additional rights to folders I not want them see
Oh that doesn’t happen, unless they crack your account… and even then, if they’re only using playback devices like the Roku, they won’t get it.
If they’re using the web interface, they will have access to “a” configuration page, but it won’t include any access to your server at all. They will need to be logged in specifically under your account for that.

They shouldn’t be able to. Only the Admin account can set these permissions. If your parent’s account can see other libraries, something is wrong. The user will only see the folders that have already been shared. Here is what my kids’ account sees. There are no checkboxes to select libraries and libraries not share to them aren’t even listed.
We talk about work arounds, I want them bring back the Allow access to Live TV back!
I pay for it and I want them provide me with the service I have pay for.
I will wait 1 more update if it not bring back the option back I will downgrade and leave it down until it is back.
Or someone do a plugin for the problem.

I believe that the correct possible combinations is 10,000. 10 possible digits, 4 digit PIN,10x10x10x10=10,000. So fair security, 10 per minute thats 16.66 hours non stop. Keyboard stuffed, cracker exhausted, safe password for your Tv shows.
For everyone who might have problem to get the version where the option still existed.
I have uploaded the Linux “plexmediaserver_1.11.3.4803-c40bba82e_amd64.deb” file to MEGA
They removed this feature a few releases ago and said it was a “bug” that it was ever there.
There are a few threads about it. :-/ Plex employees kept popping up to give non-answer answers. It’s pretty disheartening that the company keeps ignoring the community.
