An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app

Next time it happens. I will grab the logs and provide.

Thank you! I’d also requested a sample file if you could make one, please

Some files randomly trigger the error - generally if I’m not starting them from the beginning, but 100% of the files created by the Plex DVR do not play. I have both Mac and Windows playout servers - they play from neither, they don’t play on multiple Firesticks and Android phones. Plex app on Windows & Web browsers play fine.

Attached is a DVR file that would not play today on an Android phone running 8.1.2.18135

Thanks, I’ll give that a shot!

Another Plex client Android app update today and still the player doesn’t work with any video file over remote connections. Selecting ‘external player’ within Plex and choosing VLC, that works OK, so the fault remains with the player’s playback capability. over remote connections.

MiBox S here - same problem for quite some time. Most recent update has also made the work-around unreliable: Disabling new player does not consistently resolve it

When I occasionally have this issue with my Android phone, clearing storage for the app and then logging back into the app always fixes it.

We’ve made some changes in 8.3 that should help alleviate some of the underlying issues with this error appearing. Curious if people could report if they’re having better success with 8.3

Hi Dave,

Installed 8.3.0.18715-beta for the girlfriend and she still had the error pop up but she says its better than it was on 8.2.1. Will get her and a house mate to test over the weekend and try to get logs

Yeah, logs would be very much appreciated :plexheart:

I am running a MiBox 4 and no combination of settings would allow it to play if the new player was enabled.

The second I disabled the new play. I could play anything including 4K Atmos (audio transcoded of course) without issue.

Could we get some logs from 8.3, please?

I have a MiBox-S and it is running v8.2 of the app. I have checked for system updates (it is up to date running Android v9) and rebooted several times. Is there a way to “force” the app to update?

8.3 is the current beta version of our app, and contains a number of player improvements

Understood. How do people get it installed to try it? When will it be pushed out as the current version so everyone gets it?

I can’t speak for when exactly it’ll be pushed out as the release version, but you can sign up for the betas here: Join App Betas: Android (mobile), Android TV, Apple TV, iOS

Thanks. Since mine are currently working (sans new players) and my wife and son are the ones that use these the most, I’m not sure it would be a good idea to add to their frustration, but at least I know how some have v8.3 now

Thanks!

No worries! Let me know how you get on with 8.3 once it’s public :crossed_fingers: :plexheart:

I’m running Plex Server version 1.18.7.2457-77cb9455c on a WD Passport, all was fine with remote access until we upgraded to the above version. I have restarted the phones and Server multiple times and we get the same error on the phones. No code, just asking us to restart the phone app and server app. We do that, same error. The app starts, movies show, click on a movie works, then when you click to start the movie, the error comes up. The Roku apps are working fine. If we connect the phones to wifi on the same network where the server is, they work fine. Turn off wifi and get the same error. The phone apps are the current versions. I have not made any changes to the servers settings since the update to the server version. Passports is up to date and running My Passport Wireless Pro v1.04.17.

Sounds like it’s the same issue as others are having, is there a fix for this?

Thanks.
