An error occurred while postprocessing the recording

I’m getting that (An error occurred while postprocessing the recording) error on some recordings, but here’s the thing, I don’t have any post processing script set… I used to, removed it and it’s still throwing that.

The recording ends up being truncated at like under 60 seconds (it should be over an hour).

I’m assuming it’s something to do with commercial ripping, but I’m not sure how to debug/fix this issue.

Can anyone please point me to the log file which would contain any relevant information, please.

Hm, should probably mention that I’m running this in ubuntu 14.04LTS, and plex Version 1.10.1.4602.

Any ideas? at least which log file it’s in? thanks

I think you want to look at the log files with “Plex Media Server” in their name. Search for keywords like “error” or “fail” or the name of the show/movie. The postprocessing message can be from the commercial remover routine which runs after the recording is completed. If the recording was marked to remove commercials I’d bet that is the source of the “post processing”.

Thanks for the pointers, I’m pretty sure that’s correct, it’s gotta be something fishy with comskip. I’ll wait for next error and grep the logs you mentioned again.

Im getting this issue as well. I do not have any post-processing set up, including the fact that I do not have the option ticked to remove commercials. I’m also having issues where shows appear to be recording but never transition to a “saved” state (the recording symbol remains in place until I restart Plex then the show disappears completely from the Recording Schedule).

I am getting this on all live tv recordings, Running plex server on a dell 620, windows 2012 r2. During the first setup I had the post processing folder setup on the root of C in a post processing folder. After I saw the error the next day I verified the episode worked fine, which it did. Then setup the processing folder in a new location on a a drive I knew had no permissions issues just in case. Then that night x files recorded fine but again same error message.

I did some searching around and found some comments about NOT setting additional time (before / after) for recording and a number of my recordings were set this way. I’ve changed all of those and will monitor to see if I see a higher success rate.

I have no idea if scornell2288’s solution is legit or not, I moved my plex install to a new machine where this issue is not happening. so I’m just going to set his answer as valid since it most likely is at least the right place to look

Well all of my episodes play fine and comskip works all episodes still show they same error message. So not a fox, must not be permissions based. Sorry lol maybe someone will find the gotcha. I am post processing and skipping commercials, I also have them record 1 min before and 2 mins after.

Well, I’m unable to verify if the fix is legit since I no longer have an issue with this

ok, so I actually just got this again, here’s what I got from the logs:

Plex Media Server.1.log-Jan 06, 2018 22:14:40.394 [0x7f38cb7ff700] ERROR - JobManager: child process returned: 1 (Operation not permitted)
Plex Media Server.1.log-Jan 06, 2018 22:14:40.396 [0x7f38cdfff700] DEBUG - Jobs: ‘/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex Commercial Skipper’ exit code for process 22792 is 1
Plex Media Server.1.log-Jan 06, 2018 22:14:40.396 [0x7f38cdfff700] DEBUG - DVR:Recorder: EDL failed to build.

anyone know what that exit status code of 1 is from the plex com skipper?

Seems like it’s pretty random for me, happens maybe once a week on random shows.
