Something Went Wrong - THE SOLUTION

Server Version#: Version 1.41.0.8994
Player Version#: Version 1.91.0.129-1cd63c1d
Over a month ago, I decided to see if anyone could help me resolve this issue. I was at the most current Mac Plex Player version and continued to get this error message every time I used the Plex Player…

This caused a LOT of issue, the worst being that I could not Drill down into a folder to view images/videos without receiving this error message and then have the Plex Player freeze. Following many others on here, I found one remedy. Using the CMD-R. This would require me to re-log in. This continued no matter how many NEW updates to the Plex Player I received and installed. So, being totally frustrated, I decided to download OLDER players to see if it would fix the issue. AND GUESS WHAT? If did. I back-tracked versions, installing each one and testing until I came to my CURRENT version (as entered above - Version 1.91.0.129-1cd63c1d). I am running this numerous times daily without the UGLY error message popping up.

I still will allow the updates to be installed, but so far each one that has installed has returned me to the error message and the struggle to use the Plex Player like it should.

Lucky for me, I have saved the Plex Play version above and each time that the update happens and the error re-appears, I remove that app completely and reinstall this older version.

This leads me to believe that some piece of code somewhere in the new versions has causing this. I am a computer logic coder and recognize that comparing program code is the only way to solve issues and I cannot believe that this is also the case here.

What line(s) of code different from the older version to this version that have caused this issue?

Now, you may say that this is all about one person/one network/one Plex Player App. But, THIS can be further from the TRUTH. I have a PC Windows 11 Pro system that had the same issue and have successfully solved it issue by doing the same thing on it. It is currently running an OLDER version of the Plex Player for Windows and is running WITHOUT error.

It’s useful to know the version when the bug started for sure.
It’s also possible to turn off auto updates in plex.ini
as explained by gbooker in the first post of his thread,

iirc works with Plex for Mac too

This issue continues to re-appear every time that Plex is upgraded and then I have to return the version to one that did not have the issue. This needs to be fixed. Why is this happening?

Very VERY annoying. I would love to hear from the Plex team why this is occuring, over and over again.

This is REALLY frustrating. My Mac Studio over the weekend started getting the error 1008 and now I can’t view any video on ANY of my Plex servers. I have Two Synology Plex servers and this Mac Studio running most current OS Sequoia 15.3.1. Please HELP. I have attached my Plex Logs.
Plex Media Server Logs_2025-03-03_14-37-36.zip (3.1 MB)

I will add that since this is effecting all of the plex servers, I thoughts are that something is wrong on the plex media player on the Mac. I have had other issues with the newer versions of the player app. And, if I go to another computer/iphone/ipad, I am not having issues with videos.

Thanks for the logs. What I’m seeing though is not related to the thread you originally posted in so I’ve moved it into it’s own thread.

Can you please identify the player that you’re seeing this issue on? Could you also provide the player/client logs?

Also, please disable Verbose logging. At this point it’s not needed. Debug logging is fine while troubleshooting and capturing the issue but can also be disabled during normal use.

I turned off the verbose logging on the server. now, I can’t seem to find the player/client logs. Under Player Debug, there is a ‘You can view the debug logs here’ and if I click on that, I get no files, just a screen containing this…

Which player are you using? Plex for Mac.

Yes - The Player is on my Mac Studio with OS 15.3.1 (Current)

Plex for Mac logs can be found here.

Here is the log file

1.91.0.129-1cd63c1d is extremely old. Can you please update and try again. 1.108.1.307-dd5b87aa is the current version found here.

YEAH! Well, this brings us back to the original problem in that all UPDATES since 1.91.0.129 DON’T WORK ON MY MAC STUDIO. I get this…

I have tried and tried to get this to work, but had to rely on the 1.91.0.129 version in order to get passed that error. It appears that there are a LOT of other users having this same error and the codec issue only started days ago. This Something went wrong happened in 1.70-2-384, then worked for those version within the green lines and stopped after that, now including your suggested version1.108.1.307. I sent in an image indicating the working and non-working versions…

Maybe fixing one would fix the other.

This is new information to me. Can you please share your logs when you’re running the latest version of Plex Mac? When do you see this error screen?

Okay, I ran that new version again and here is the log for it…

Can you tell me when you’re seeing the error message in your screenshot? Is this once the app is opened or when attempting to play something or something else?

Can you handle a short video showing the steps w/comments?

Never mind the video. Here are the steps
Step 1: I choose the subject of photos which displays the Years.

Step 2: I then select any desired year. This displays that year by month

Step 3: I select the month and get this.

At this point I cannot back out or select any other Subject on the left. However, I can select to go into settings.

Once in here, I CAN go back to home. But now the problem seems to have changed. Now if I drill down to the same month or any other month, I don’t get the error, but get this instead.

If I select the year and month, it seems to allow selection of 1 or more images, but it does not go anywhere.

NOTE! I did notice that if I select a different Main section (other photo batches or movies) and then come back to the original, sometimes I can get further into the sub-folders but eventually, I end up with the same error message.

Can you please grab the logs found here?

Is the issue isolated to viewing Photos in general or this specific Photo album?

The problem is doing anything at various different levels and doesn’t make a difference whether it is a folder with only one level down or ones with several levels. most of the time, it is just moving from one level to another level before even viewing an image or a video.

I finally found the server log.
