An Update Is Available: Please Install Manually: How to without resetting everything?

Server Version#: 1.13.5.5332
Synology DS1618+

Hey guys! I have a great install of Plex on my DS1618+, but had to do the install of the ‘package’ manually (download, and then install via the ‘manual install’ method under the Packages widget).

Now my PMS is saying there is an update available and to please install manually.

I am looking for some assistance on how to do the update using the manual method, but without having to start from scratch once the update is complete? I clicked the download link, but how to do an ‘upgrade’ vs a ‘full install’ using the DSM Package Manager (or what other method? I am a newbie).

It feels like with the download I did of the ‘update’ if I go into the Package Manager, and do the Manual Install, it will just install a new Plex ‘Package’ … or will it detect I have Plex already installed as a package, and upgrade it??

I want to make sure to ‘upgrade’ not ‘fresh install’ as because I don’t want to have to re-setup my libraries, etc, because when you do this, the Recently Added movies section just shows ALL movies, because you just built your library and added ALL movies. And of course just the plain hassle of starting from scratch every time there is an update

Help/thoughts?
Thanks so much!

do just as it says.

  1. Download
  2. Manual install directly on top of the old (higher version upgrades are done this way).

I don’t overwrite your Plex share when the installer runs

If you must / wish to downgrade, uninstall the package. The data and code are separate. This is how I overcame the Synology limitation. Your data (Library) is safe.

Thanks so much!!
