Can updates be installed manually?

This is literally a general question, as in: if I have a Syno package for Plex, can I install a manual update?

I have the latest package in Synology, which is (text can’t be selected, well done Synology…):

Hey thanks for the answer, that’s really useful information!

The versions are very different (running 1.18, latest is 1.21 for Synology), so I’ll definitely be looking to install the newer one.
