Following on the heels of the TVDB ‘No Posters’ disaster, we now have the next contestant - No Descriptions for Movies disaster…
For two days now, I get artwork, actor images, all the other goodies - except descriptions:
I started going to TMDB, copying the description Plex can’t get and pasting it in the edit window (if it’s one thing I know - it’s work-arounds for Plex), but this last one was left exactly as it arrives…
(yep - a (2001) movie does have it’s text data intact at TMDB, as one might expect)
(I’ll try to leave this one’s description blank - in the hopes that something happens during the maintenance cycle due in a few hours, but my OCD isn’t cooperating…)
So… what now?
I decided to start this thread early - to account for the standard Plex Support Delay that could take upwards of… years…
I have deleted the IMDB and TMDB caches, restarted PMS several times, Plex Danced ‘Dust (2001) [1080p].mkv’ several times - and still… disappointment reigns supreme. I include the Server logs - for what that’s worth - and now… we wait for the next bump…
It looks like you are using Plex Movie, not TMDB as your agent.
What do you have selected as ‘Plot Summary Source’ in the properties of ‘Plex Movie’?
I get a plot summary, when this is set to ‘TMDB’.
But none when set to ‘IMDb’, which is easily explained, since it doesn’t have a summary on there: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303938/
Hmmm… every single Movie Library (all 20+) have now magically been switched over to Plex Movie.
I guaran-dam-tee ya TMDB was selected YEARS ago and this old boy made no change… but Plex must have arbitrarily decided to switch them for me recently - like in the last week or so.
In the process of switching them back to TMDB and Plex Dancing stuff… oh the joyous Sunday maintenance - when I wanted to be meeting frequent deaths in COD WWII… but NooooOOOOOoooo… lol
I’ll let you know how it goes after a few Plex Dances… because, of course - Refresh Metadata does nothing… like those COD Goggles, apparently…
thx
BTW:
Your link isn’t the movie in question, but this is - and it has a Plot Summary:
Which is why I loathe IMDB and Plex Movie and would NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS make that switch on my own…
I also found out not every Movie Library was switched. Out of 19 Movie Libraries, 15 were switched to Plex Movie, 4 remained at TMDB. No rhyme or reason to it. Some Libraries that have existed for years were switched, others not. One recent Library had been switched and another one had not. Figure that one out…
A Plex Dance now populates the Plot Summary… and the Plex Movie Agent was set to IMDB for the Plot Summary, so that much is no longer a mystery.

Although this summary wasn’t created by an IMDB editor but by a user. Maybe there is a difference in ‘licensing’ here?

I don’t know how.
For older libraries: if they were created to use Freebase they are now using Plex Movie, because this is the successor of the Freebase agent.
