Android Download Error: External Storage not found

Server Version#: 1.24.4.5081-7000
Player Version#: 8.24.0.28408
Phone: Pixel 2

When I try to download media to my phone for playback without using mobile data I get the following error “External storage not found. Swipe to remove or tap to retry”. Retrying the download yields the same result. I don’t have an external storage micro SD card in my phone, my phone doesn’t even have a slot for one. I also checked the download settings and the storage location is set to “Internal storage”, which is the only option in the first place. Does anyone know how to resolve this error?

I am having the same error. I even deleted the device on the server and added a new one. Still no dice.

After further playing around, it seems my error is limited to trying to download playlists. Episodes, seasons, and individual tracks and albums are fine.

Same issue here, all of a sudden all my playlists in the “Downloads on Device” show the same error: “External storage not found. Swipe to remove or tap to retry”

Makes it kinda useless since playlists are, currently, the only practical way to use Plex for Android Auto while “Offline” or with low data caps.

Server Version 1.24.4.5081 un Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS Server
Client Version 8.24.0.28408 on Android 11

Same also happens on a Server Version 1.24.4.5081 running on a Debian/RaspberryPi

Same issue here. Thought it might be related to having an SD card so I removed it and had the same issue. It only applies to downloaded playlists.

Same issue here. Audio playlists won’t download. I get the error message of external media not found. But non-audio playlists download to the external media fine.

Android 10, Samsung Galaxy S9+.

I’m also having this issue as described, only with playlists so far, and nothing I do seems to fix it :<

At first, all i had to do was tap to retry as it asks, and it would start downloading again after a few moments… But it’s gotten completely stuck at this point; tapping it/force-quitting and reopening the app both trigger “initializing downloads” to show in my notifications, only to disappear after abt 15 seconds of not doing anything

I’m gonna be on the road with my partner next week for 5 days straight I could really use this *not happening rn, thanks to anyone who can assist >.>

Same problem here on a brand new Pixel 6 which has no external storage.

I am also having the same problem trying to download a music playlist to my android phone. I have tried rebooting my server, clearing the data on my phone and redownloading, reinstalling plex app… It may be worth noting the Pixel 6 Pro only supports internal storage, yet I receive the above message. Attached are my logs

Client Version: 8.25.1.28703 (Android 12)
Device: Pixel 6 Pro (Raven)

I have the same issue since a few weeks. Why isn’t this solved yet? Can’t use my offline music on the road, this is why I use the Plex app…

UPDATE 30-11-2021: Problem seems solved as I don’t have any errors anymore. Thanks

I find it baffling that there’s been no staff response to this issue yet. Especially when I’ve seen them addressing several other bugs with the downloads system here… bleh

I’ve been getting the same error,
I always used to use the sync setting for a TV show playlist but downloading the playlist gets this error but not if I download individually… I just don’t want to download them individually!

So maybe it’s a bulk download related error…

We’ve identified the issue and a fix will be available in a future app update.

Thank you!!!

The fix is in the newest 8.26.0 beta just released earlier.

How does one go about getting downloading the Beta version on an Amazon Fire HD tablet?

I literally just got this tablet like 3 days ago and was a little disappointed when I ran into this issue right away

Access the forums from the browser on the tablet. Download the beta from this link.

Use the file explorer to find the file and run it.

I just tried the new Downloads feature after updating the app on my tablet, only to find that the external storage is not an option in the Downloads configuration.
It is, however, recognized in the Sync configuration.

Can you provide a screenshot? It should be an option.

Edit - Wait, are you using the kids profile? If so, that’s a limitation placed by Amazon. We can’t get around that.
