Android Player Ver. 8.24.0.28408 speed playback at 2x if automatic convert is triggered

Same issue here, almost all my content randomly plays at 2x speed using Automatically convert on Android devices. Downgrading to 8.23.1.28053 does indeed fix the problem but hopefully Plex devs can get to the bottom of it.

I am also having this problem on most recent beta. Really causes headaches. Going to downgrade I guess

Same problem here

Same problem here, plex works fine unless I turn on Convert Automatically and then it’s stuck in a fast forward buffering mess. Any reason why we STILL haven’t heard anything from plex on this?

Same issue here

Pixel 5a
Android 12

I think it has something to do with transcoding as when it happens, i just switch to orginal quality, and it goes normal speed. Or if its already original quality, ill switch to automatic and back, which fixes it as well.

Experiencing the same issue here as well. Plex devs, please fix this.
Also the button to change the quality is tiny located in corner and Phone edges are rounded it’s not getting triggered right away, bad UX there too. I have to rotate the screen towards camera side.

I’m getting this problem on the Shield Pro 2019 when transcoding with ASS subtitles

just tried 8.27.1 apk downloaded from plex thread
same problem
last version of pms windows

come on guys
is an awesome program plex
just please, fix issue quickly

To add some info it only dose it on certain titles and dose it even if not transcoding even on small video files.

I’m on Chromecast with Google TV if I switch to the Samsung app and resume it it plays normal.

Hi,
just checked lastest public version apk https://downloads.plex.tv/Kepler/kepler-arm64v8a-googlePlay-stdExo-8.28.0.30077-241173d0.apk downloaded from here:

Plex for Android - Announcements - Plex Forum

Issue is still there.

I have the same issue on multiple android devices. Fire Stick, Galaxy Tab, Pixel 3 xl, Pixel 4 XL. I do not really want to have to side load an old APK onto these devices for what should be a simple fix. It worked before so it shouldn’t be that hard to find what was changed.

Edit. Fire Stick might have been user error by one of my users. My Fire Sticks on the local network seem to play fine. There may still be a problem when remote play but I can’t replicate on my fire sticks on the local network I was just repeating what a user told me.

Same issue on Samsung S10e, 2x (may be 4x) speed if on Convert Automatically setting in Playback Quality but no issue if select Play Original Quality. I also notice that if I choose Convert to 720p HD (2Mbps) the speed is also normal, only if I choose Convert Automatically then the speed is abnormal.

my advise is to try out every release, and if not fix this issue
 go back to 8.23.1.28053 apk

I have this issue with an Nvidia shield pro as client and TrueNAS server.

Hi I have the same issue.

If I turn off - ‘automatically adjust quality’ it fixes the issue. I know that means it will not adjust with bandwidth.

This workaround also fixes the issue currently I have with subtitles also where the video will not start unless I turn off convert automatically in the playback settings.

Hopefully Plex Devs can resolves this but this workaround works for the latest versions of the client for me.

Same exact issue. Now all videos are doing it. Pathetic the developers haven’t even acknowledged the issue

For the record, on of the Plex devs has been active on the issue in this thread here, but no updates or eta on when it will be fixed

Similar problems. The difference is that the problem here is in the windows 10 server, and the Synology NAS server is OK

In addition, the Andorid app uncheck the selection “quality → automatically adjust the quality” will fix, and also manually selecting the quality when watching the video
