Source Error

I updated my phone, and my son updated his tablet to the latest client. Now (when outside of the home wifi) neither of us can watch video. We can see the libraries. we can interact, and see watch status, but when we push play an “Error Occurred” message with “Source error” comes up.

Nothing else has been changed in the system other than the PLEX rollout, and I have the lifetime license.

Resolved problem by downgrading Plex app version on Android.

Same issue here, but I can’t get it to work even on my local WiFi! What did they do to my app? I can play from my web browser and my server is up to date.

Exact same issue. Multiple android devices, local or remote play same “Source Error” message. Plays fine on LG / Samsung Tizen TV and iPad.

Client Version: 2025.14.0 (966828378)
Android Version
14

Device Model:
SM-F946U1

Same exact issue, I made no changes at all to the server or settings just got greeted by the new user interface when I got to the gym and nothing but source error ever since. I don’t know how to downgrade my version to the old one and my server is a paper weight until this is resolved…

please tell me how to do that. I get the same error message on my phone, but my kindle which hasn’t been updated plays things fine. I also hate the new look and interface, proper disorganised and naff a real step back in quality and clarity. so really want to go back to the previous version that gave me no problems

Are you able to provide the logs so I can see why they are failing to load for you?

They are found under the app settings, About and then Download Logs.

these are mine. mean nothing to me but hopefully you can read them.

just to clarify, I play a film, or programme from my server or friends servers on my phone and I get a black screen with a message saying source error - yet my actual server shows my phone connected and the video playing. now if I use my kindle, which does not have the updated app, then the films play ok

I’ve been having the same issue only on my android phone since the update as well. I see you asking for the logs so I’ll post mine here for you. The issue only seems to happen on my galaxy s22 ultra phone. TV applications and windows pc applications seem to work fine.

There’s another post talking about failure on the mobile android app when using a relay. A possible cause perhaps. I’ve noticed the same issue on my device and I am using the remote relay to connect to my server. Error happens on Galaxy S24 Ultra (Cellular) and Galaxy Tab S10+ (Wifi, different than server) when remote. Logs are attached.

Having the same exact issue when trying to play anything remotely on my Android. I get the “Source Error” message on my Galaxy Note 9. Updated the app and played a video on my work phone, Iphone 15, and it played just fine. Both attempts were done using cellular, not connected to wifi. Added the logs from my Note 9 as well.

Thanks for the logs, the APK below should fix this if you want to side load it. It will be available in the next release (which should be in 2 weeks).

same problem here since I was forced to switch from ipv4 to ipv6 on my internet provider. Runs fine in local Lan, but not external anymore. I tried the old Android app and that one is working. Extra Informations: I opened port 32400 in Fritzbox Router and on my Synology Firewall for ipv6, but the Synology server ( Version 1.41.6.9685) jumps every few seconds back to “Not available outside your network”. The “Retry” Button brings the status “Fully accessible outside your network” and one minute later it is back to “Not available outside your network”.

Hardware did not changed with my provider change, just ipv4 to ipv6.

So it is not the Android appalone, my Plex Server is also unstable and not working well.

Confirming that the APK fixes this issue for me;

Did the APK above help with your issue? Since your encountering issues with your Plex server as well, you might be best to create a new thread in the forums and include your logs from your server and any clients that are struggling to connect.

I am having the same issue on my Samsung android tablet. Same version on my Samsung phone works fine. I’ve tried installing the apk on my tablet but it does not resolve the problem.

Interesting development - while I was just watching a show on my phone, it gave me the error. Yet on my phone, I closed the Plex app, and I was able to continue playing the show, though it did not remember it’s position in the file. I have not installed the apk on the phone.

Downgrading the Plex client on the tablet works.

Before you downgraded, were you able to grabs the logs after replicating the issue?
