I just recently have had problems playing back files on my Sony x900F running Android TV Oreo. It started when I noticed that a movie wasn’t playing audio, but video was coming through. When I switched to another video that I know has worked before, it stopped playback on the first frame. Now none of my video files play on my TV, and all of them get stuck on the first frame.
I restarted my server, and uninstalled and reinstalled my Plex app on my TV, with the same results.
However, i am able to play any movie file on my laptop via plex.tv on Chrome, so I do not believe it is a problem with my Plex Server.
Researching in the forums, it seems like other people had this issue before, but that was a few years ago and the solution seemed to be an app update from Plex.
Any ideas on what is going wrong, or possible solutions?
Hey!
This has started to happen for me today as well. It is very annoying.
I have been troubleshooting it for a short period of time tonight, and the movies I try to play works after a ‘hard’ reboot of the tv, but after watching one movie, it begins with the issue all over again with the next one I’ll try and watch.
I got a Sony KD-55XD7005, and I assume it has the latest version from the Google App Market, since I had auto-update on.
My server is at version 1.14.0.5470.
I do believe it has something to do with mkv-files, since mp4 and avi-files have no trouble playing on first try.
Any help would be great… I just want it to work like it always did yesterday
I found out that Android Oreo seems to be the sinner in all of this…
God damn’it Sony…
From another forum "Plex won’t play anything 5.1 or more and neither will the videos app built in. did factory reset and things works OK for about 5 min then stopped. I contacted Sony support this morning and they have rescheduled a technical specialist to call me back in 1-2 days.
worst part is everything was working absolutely perfect before Oreo, and i wanna say it was working for a day or two after Oreo but can’t remember when i updated."
I actually found out that my problem is tied to DTS-MA files instead. I recently ripped a couple blu-rays into MKV, and I’m able to play the ones with TrueHD or DD, but when I try to play the ones that have DTS-MA that file won’t play and the rest of my files won’t play until I do a hard reset on my TV. I’m 99% sure it’s not a problem with my server, as I am able to stream those files to my PC over a web browser.
So no, I haven’t found a solution yet. I’m hoping that a bug fix comes eventually, or else I’ll have to convert my all DTS-MA files to DD.
Same issue on a Sony TV here. I tried downloading the MrMC Android TV app after seeing it mentioned elsewhere and that plays Plex videos without any issues, so presumably this is a client issue, even if it was an OS update that introduced it.
