Android TV app "unknown airing" on back to back same show

Hi,

I get unknown airing messages on channels where the the same program is back to back.
Through Plex web this doesn’t appear and guide shows everything correctly. This only happens on my Android TV devices.

Below is example of XMLTV…

25 Boozy drivers, lots of attitude and cops standing in their way. Buckle up for the high velocity series Booze Patrol! Booze Patrol 30 A young guy on a date thought he could get away with avoiding a Random Breath Testing site. Truck driver Gotsa had three gin and tonics b$ Booze Patrol

If I change the XMLTV input and add some text to the second showing in the title and refresh dvr guide the problem is fixed on the android devices. This happens on the latest beta and also latest stable release.

Is there a fix for this as you cannot tune to the channel when it is “unknown airing” which seems rather picky,

Server Version#: 4.3.20
Player Version#: 8.1.0.17966 and latest GA

New beta release also same issue.

I wonder if a DEV is ever going to respond to this, or if it will be another unanswered plex issue - I certainly hope not.

Latest beta - still same problem

Would need a copy of your xmltv file that reproduces the issue

A copy of your Plex Media Server EPG database and an example of airings would be useful

The database is in the Plug-in Support\Databases directory on the server and there are 3 files to copy out and zip the copy - all 3 with filenames starting with tv.plex.

Hi sa2000,

Will get those logs etc posted in a couple of days (currently away from home).

Using plex remotely, web guide looks fine and complete. Android app on my phone shows same unknown airing as per android tv. Will get info posted shortly.

Cheers

unknown airings would normally appear if there are gaps in the schedule in the EPG - could be an issue with the xmltv file you are using or how it is being processed by Plex Media Server

So would need to know what channel numbers/channel names this appeared for and at what times / dates in the schedule.

A copy of the xmltv file would be needed and it may also help to get the Plex Media Server EPG database files - copying out the files with names starting with “tv.plex” and held within the “Plug-in Support\Databases” directory - and zipping the copy and providing the zip

Hiya,

Finally got time to get everything together.

Attached requested files, screenshot of the WebEPG which shows everything correctly and the AndroidEPG app screenshot showing the unknown airing, there are usually at least 20 of these within a day.

Channel 1017 (ESPN) Date 18 June 2020 @ 3:00pm “In Depth With” is the show reference.

The database does show a lot of gaps and overlaps in the schedules - and with such errors the handling of this may vary from one client app to another. In fact even Plex Web is not right because Live: AMA Supercross is actually 3 hours and not 30 minutes - but when there overlaps the outcome is indeterminate

Picking 1017 ESPN channel as example here some overlaps

Add 12 hours to get to your local time zone

This shows count of all overlaps and total minutes

This shows gaps in the schedules

Thanks for the detailed response, quite surprising to see all those overlaps. The EPG is being grapped OTA so not sure how this has occurred.

Is it possible that there are changes being published OTA and subsequent crawls are causing the overlaps due to caching (not sure of a better way to explain my thoughts)… but something along the lines of the epg initially grabs but the subsequent grabs are appended hence making the epg database a mess. Not referring to plex epg database necessarily as my setup is OTA > Xteve > Plex. So thinking Xteve is causing the mess.

Thinking out loud, any feedback would be appreciated.
