Any chance this bad PHT/VC-1 bug will be fixed?

Because Plex Home Theater gave up on integrating updates to major components a long time ago, this major bug was never fixed: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/99266/movies-with-vc-1-vc1-codec-badly-pixelated-flashing

Basically, displaying any video that uses VC-1 with hardware acceleration enabled results in an unplayable experience. A huge number of Blu-Rays use VC-1, so this means hardware acceleration always has to be set “off”. This is really BAD.

The way to fix this has been known for a long time. It means updating ffmpeg in PHT. The version of ffmpeg in PHT is very old, and it does not work well with Intel integrated graphics – which is the root of the problem.

You guys will forever be my hero if you can address/fix this problem! :slight_smile:

File an issue on GitHub and it will be looked at.

@Speednet21:
I’m not sure exactly which ffmpeg version is supposed to fix the problem you describe, but the new OPHT version 1.5.1 released today does ‘bump up’ the ffmpeg version a few notches, so please test this again with the videos that gave you trouble before, and let us know what results you now get.

Quoted from the release post of OpenPHT v1.5.1:

  • ffmpeg updated from 0.10.2 to 0.10.16

Thanks for the replies! The new OPHT 1.5.1 release does not fix the problem, but I have very good reason to believe it will be fixed very shortly in the next release!

How exactly do you know that? Log file would probably help them identify the issue…

This will be fixed when Intel fixes the issue with their GPU drivers for Linux. This is a well known issue for anyone using Linux and any iteration of Intel integrated GPUs. Using Windows, VC-1 HW acceleration with Intel GPUs seem to work just fine. NVIDIA has their HW acceleration working perfectly for VC1 on Linux and Windows. Within mpv.conf, I removed VC1 from the list of codecs for HW acceleration but I have a NUC5i7RYH. I see up to 10% CPU usage by PMP when I SSH into the box and run “top”

This issue should be fixed in the now released OpenPHT 1.5.2, please confirm, see https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/210167/release-openpht-1-5-2/p1 for release notes and download links
