I’ve noticed I’m having issues with PLEX on all Amazon platforms over the last month or so. My Fire Stick enabled TV takes forever to load a TV episode, buffers constanly, and won’t resume an episode from a previous point, will only start from the beginning. My sister and parents are having the same issues trying to use my server remotely over their Fire Sticks and Fire Tablets. Here’s the rub - We all also run other TVs using ROKU boxes and have no issues whatsoever when using those. These issues only manifest on Amazon products.
Yes Tatelaw, there are several small threads here with the same kind of issues.
Some things mentioned that aren’t working properly are…
10 second countdown to continue the next episode automatically, resume, and episodes not being counted as played
I’m also getting the "Your network is not fast enough to play this media when I never did before.
Buffering and the message “your network speeds are not fast enough to play the media” used to happen once every few months but now it’s happening several times a day
One TV gets 500 mbps up and down so this can’t possibly be a speed issue with the network
I’m not going to waste my time uploading logs if they haven’t even looked at the ones from 9 days ago
This is one thread I found
https://forums.plex.tv/t/an-error-occurred-on-play-next-since-8-12-on-firetv/707655
Oh another issue I just had. Paused a video to type this and when I hit play to resume it I just got kicked out of the app back to the Amazon home screen
What models of FireTV are you seeing this on? I was running out of storage on all of my older FireTV’s and replaced them with 4k units over the last year - I don’t have any 4K content or TV’s but I figured the hardware would have more power… I kind of assumed I was running into the same issues as you would have running newer iOS versions on older iOS devices.
I’ve not had a single issue other than that ‘your network is not fast enough’ error when skipping around during playback, and it would still play back without issue so I saw it as a false positive, That was only happening when I had a 2 core Pentium Gold in my server, but since upgrading the CPU in the server I have not seen that error.
A lot of this is anecdotal, but just throwing it out there since I have 4 FIreTV’s in the house and none are experiencing issues.
I’m using the 3rd generation dongle/pendant as they call it. That one was almost out of storage an hour after I took it out of the box lol
I have a 4k cube but I have seen a lot of people running into varied issues with them here so I’ve held off swapping them out. I can’t justify the benefit of 4k content for such a giant leap in file size anyway
One of the guys in the other thread from the link i posted has a 4k cube and he’s getting all the same issues as I am
If I get the error about the network all I usually have to do is back out of the show, then resume and it seems to pick up where it left off and plays ok
This happens while I’m just watching, not when I try to skip around, FF or anything like that
I’m not doing anything else to my server, network or fire tv to fix it
So in that regard it does seem like a false positive except for that it freezes
Have you upgraded your server to the newest version with the home screen changes yet?
Yep server and app are both on the newest versions. There are issues with the Home Screen / recommended stuff in both the windows player and firetv apps that I documented in another thread, but they are more of bugs when using the new customizations, and can be worked around by not using them yet.
