LOL - They’re sweating this big time. I just had an incredibly mild post flagged and removed in response to their disastrous App update.
Two words, “Milestone Payment.” I spun up an Emby container yesterday and have been scanning intro’s for more than 24 hours because I’m sure this will hit Apple TV next quarter.
I call BS on ‘… had been tested quite a bit….” If you had tested it properly you would know it is broken! I am not talking about the very poor UI that others are talking about because I can’t even get to the point of experiencing the bad UI. Mine crashes just trying to get to my libraries. And I am not the only one. How could you let that out with out a fix?
If you have the original app, THE ONE THAT WORKS, as a separate code base then release it as an unsupported legacy app. What harm could that do? You don’t provide support anyway so why not make your customers happy and give them what the want???
This is just bad decisions followed up by worse decisions!!!
You can call what ever . I use it myself in my office and is the daily driver of many employees. have not run into any of the bugs mentioned by the OP of this post.
Issues like Plex not working at all on local libraries? No matter which device I use it on, when I click “Libraries”, I get dumped to the main Roku menu. That’s not an issue, that’s total product failure.
Which again I have not run into whether you choose to believe that or not. The dev team afaik identified what could be causing that particular issue for some and is in the process of fixing it.
I will make a video of it. It repeatedly does it.
OK. If it is something different than they understood the issue to be that could be helpful thank you.
Agree. Would love to understand this better. This is the first report I have seen for something like this. Would you be able to provide some more information like what version your server is on and if there is any other information you could provide on this. We are also taking a look at the crashes that get recorded and I will ask the team to see if they see anything related to this.
EDIT - I see that @BigWheel is also on this one, so happy to step back here.
Yes, as Lisa says. All of my devices that got this update do not let me see the libraries. It starts to show them and the app then just quits and exits back to Roku main menu. At one point on my soundbar it said it could not find the server, but it still could play items from my library. This was described in the original post.
Tagging @McWanke as well.
Roku says it’s Version 8.6 - build 4. I can’t get at the build number inside the Plex app because that requires me to move over the Libraries menu, and again, that drops me right to the Roku main screen.
Here’s the video of that happening.
if this isn’t fixed i’m switching to emby… fk this.. for years i’ve never had a problem and now this one update has absolutely trashed all of my rokus.. buttons don’t work, the app crashes.. never any issues before..
amazing… in one fell swoop plex has managed to take the best product of it’s type and turn it into the worst product of its type… and they’re doing nothing about it… idiots
The crash happens within 1 second of trying to get to the Libraries. You don’t even have to select it, just arrowing over to it causes the crash. However, if you arrow over fast enough you can get to settings.
One of me devices says, 8.6.4.10597-11589ce23-Plex. This is a device that is failing.
umm.. they already did or at least i have it and it sucks balls.. just wait.. that wave is coming soon!!
just make the new ui a new app.. leave us the legacy ui. we never wanted that new UI thats pure crap and performs like such.
I’ll have to try speeding over. It’s a little difficult for me because I have essential tremor, so speedy isn’t my forte!
I AGREE !!! I can Play but CANNOT PAUSE REWIND FASTFORD AT SUBTILES BASICALLY NOTHING WFT !!! EVERYTHING IS WRONG WITH THIS NEW UPDATE INSTREAD OF MAKING THINGS BETTER YOU GUYS JUST KILLED IT !!!
I just love how Plex decided to add an icon for the show you are watching before the first episode in each season. If you accidentally click on that it locks up the app and nothing will work. Same thing happens if you go to the Search function.
As if that isn’t bad enough, exiting the app to the Roku Home Screen and entering Plex again does NOT fix the issue! You literally have to reboot your entire Roku for the app to unlock itself!
The Plex team really put in a lot of extra hours of overtime on this update to screw things up as much as possible. How could anything this bad get released without proper testing?
They also removed the ‘Watched’ text from movies that have been finished. Instead now you have to rely on looking at that circle icon which goes from clear when ‘Unwatched’ to solid white when ‘Watched’. I am sorry but that is absolutely far too subtle for most people to notice or remember.
They’ve also removed the Plex clock from the upper right hand corner of the screen when you are on a movie page.
The pinned libraries being moved from the side where they were convenient to a top bar that takes more clicks to get to is not an improvement!
All of these changes are for the worse!
Everyone at Plex involved in this design and the approval of it should be FIRED!!!
@LisaTX You need to set the share permissions on the video to anyone with link. Thanks for making it
Done! Sorry, I just forgot that step.
