I’ve continued to have this issue and I’ve just had it again today. It lasted much longer today than it was doing before - I played several hours’ worth of music before it crashed - so possibly this has been improved in a recent update? But the same error did eventually occur unfortunately.
As always, this was on local playback (not remote streaming) and I have had the same problem when playing albums or playlists.
Still having this issue in 2.13. Playback just stuttered to a halt.
This time the app didn’t crash as it has before (did something change in the update to 2.13?), but playback stuttered and then stopped and wouldn’t start again until I force-quit the app and relaunched.
Just happened to me again, and this time it was following a complete reset to factory settings and reinstall of the app. This time the app froze.
It always seems to happen at the end of one track when it’s about to start the next track.

Sorry I forgot to report back to you. We’re not 100% sure because we can’t reproduce the crash reliably.
The problem is we need a bigger upgrade of the audio player, and that bigger upgrade is work in progress, almost done, but it’ll need much more testing to make sure it doesn’t introduce other new problems
Not really, sorry. I know our Android team just started to integrate it in the Android apps, which hopefully will mean they’ll find (and fix) many bugs, and then we’ll follow. But there are no specific plans or schedule
I have this problem for a few months now.
Playlists and albums play fine (random play activated or not) on MacOS, on iOS, but crash the Plex app on tvOS.
I can recreate this issue at will: play music on the AppleTV and wait 1 to 4 minutes (sometimes it doesn’t reach the end of the first song, sometimes it crashes at the fourth one).
Apple TV 3 (tvOS 13.3.1) with Plex app V2.14
Plex server (V4.22.2) running on Synology DS214Play (DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4)
I didn’t use Plex this morning for anything other than creating this log: I launched the app, played a playlist (called 180800), the first track began (I couln’t tell which one or what precise time), the app crashed after a minute approximately, then I enabled log downloading and downloaded it.
So the logs should be pretty concise.
If the Library sorted by “Date played” is correct, the track would be “Cheetah Tongue” by “The Wombats”.
I experience similar issues with playing music through the AppleTV plex app. I use playlists and when I play one in random order the app will begin to stutter almost always in the first 10-15 minutes and then the app will close shortly thereafter.
I’ve got the same problem. After updating the music it always stops after a few minutes.
It is unacceptable. I was wrong to want to update!
I realize that programming is difficult but … guys! Here we must make an ethical speech. If I “update” my old car and I take a new car, I always find the steering wheel in its place. I always find the gears, and the brake … okay? Do you understand what I mean? The world of programming must put a hand on consciousness. You don’t work this way! Give yourself a move
I believe it happened to me twice now… with VLC!
Both times, I used VLC on my Apple TV to access the Plex UPnP server to play music tracks.
The issues did not occur (yet) while using VLC to connect directly to the Synology SMB server (without Plex involvement).
I don’t know if it helps, obviously I’m no computer expert.
happened to me on and off- about a year ago. I gave up. Now Itunes is crapping out with similar issues too (suddenly- it used to be fine). I chalk this up to Apple not caring about Itunes anymore, and the apple boards are at a loss ( and completely unhelpful)
Plex played for about an hour on shuffle, then just quit this morning. I am a lifetime subscriber- not expecting this lack of development. Maybe Plex could develop that fancy new plexamp for apple tv too( not just IOS devices?)
Same issue here. Most of my music is ALAC (to give me lossless cross-compatibility between Plex and iTunes). Music will play for hours sometimes, other times it crashes, and almost always after playing a song in its entirety (i.e., when starting a new song). I also seem to have this problem when playing from Plexamp in iOS or from the Plex app in iOS (though less frequently).
Started having this issue a few days ago (after last server update). Start a shuffle play, first song plays for about a minute then PLEX app crashes.
Happened a few times in a row, decided to restart Apple TV4K and that seemed to fix the issue.
But next day same thing happens, again a restart of Apple TV seems to temporarily fix the issue.
Will try to remember to turn on debug mode tomorrow to get the debug logs.
Doesn’t seem to happen when watching videos…but only watched one program since the last server update.
Not to knock Plex - there is a lot I like about it - but this one issue drove me to Emby. Has been working great, particularly for personal music libraries.
