Apple TV audio stops randomly

I am experiencing some audio cut off while watching a movie since updating to tvOS 11. Basically a movie will be playing and the video will continue playing when the audio stops. Pausing and pressing Play again will make the audio come back. This happens at random times and with whatever I have tossed at it. All of the movies are in a mp4 container with h.264 video and most of the time I have 2 audio sources (2ch aac and 5.1 ac3). I have tried re-encoding some movies with just one audio source to see if that would help but it has not. I have also tried updating to the Public Beta tvOS 11.1 which it has not and now I’m also part of the beta of Plex.

This has also been posted on non-beta forum:

My Setup:

  • tvOS 11.1 (15J5580a) on Apple TV
  • Plex tvOS app 1.18 (7065)
  • Plex Media Server 1.9.5.4339
  • Qnap TS-251+

KennyR31, does the sound stop only within Plex or is it not working across all apps and the ATV interface as well? How is your audio connected, HDMI>TV, HDMI>Receiver>TV, Optical > Sound Bar, etc?

Hey cblyth, the audio only stops within Plex every other app I have used does not have an issue. I have a Sonos Playbase + SUB and the setup is like this, ATV4 > LG OLED C7 > Sonos Playbase via Optical.

Also worth noting, I have also changed the sound output of the TV to just use the internal speakers to see if it’s my Sound Bar setup and I got the same result. The next test I’m going to try is to use the Plex app on the LG TV to see if still happens.

Thank you!

@KennyR31 Do you have “Auto adjust quality” setting enabled?

Auto Adjust Quality is off as all of the content is on a local nas.

FYI, @kinoCharlino has also filed an internal issue in the link posted above.
