Apple TV's Missing Library Reload Button

Todays beta:

NEW:

  • Advanced automatic reloading updates anything on-screen when server content is added, deleted, or changed.

Here’s hoping it works.

I was just coming here to post that  I should be able to test off and on today as well.

The beta that came out today is a step in the right direction and is world’s better than it was. However, TV Show Library (Unwatched) filter on still doesn’t refresh. It is much easier to force the refresh by just navigation to a different library (ie Movies) and back again. I no longer need to uncheck and check unwatched filter anymore.

I noticed that too. I’ll report to the devs.

All my clients (web, Android, Tivo, iPad) update to show newly added movies except the Apple TV, Yes I can toggle my filter around to get the new movie to show but that’s a solution on par with using a metal coat hanger as an antenna. I see someone mentioned a new beta. Is this for the client or server. I’m on the beta track for the server ( Version 1.18.5.2260) and I’m still seeing this issue. If it’s a beta track for the Apple TV client how does one load that (I’m on 2.12)?

Thanks,.

Found it - Apple TV Beta Request

Well, this issue was fixed for a few weeks, at least on my Apple TV 4K. However, it now appears to be broken again. Since my Apple TV apps are set to update automatically, I am not sure what version change is to blame and when exactly this happened (in the past week or so). But it sure is annoying that this is not getting fixed once and for all. Thank God we still have the Unplayed filter workaround.

I haven’t actually seen a fix for this at all. I’m not on the beta version so it’s possible it hasn’t been rolled out to me yet, but I still have to do the filter change workaround. Have others had this work for them on the release version?

To help isolate the issue please include the Plex app version number and PMS version number, thank you.

The version number for the app on the Apple TV is 2.14 (14373).

The version number for PMS on my Mac is 1.18.7.2457-77cb9455c.

Thanks.

Finally, the problem seems to be solved. Now, when a movie ends and returns to the Movies section with the “Unwatched” filter, it is updated and the movie is not in the filter match list.
Thanks for solving this, although it has taken a long time

Unrelated problem, I am afraid. The problem discussed here is that the Apple TV Plex app fails to update its lists whenever changes are made server-side (items removed or added). Toggling the Unwatched filter on and off forces the Apple TV Plex app to refresh the list from the server, but it’s only a workaround.

Well, it’s not totally unrelated but your description is accurate. There were two symptoms of the issue and only one of them has been resolved.

Not sure exactly when (I’ve been binging a show on Netflix for a bit), but sometime in the last few weeks, this seems to have improved significantly. After watching an episode, the count is updated when its finished. New episodes seem to appear more reliably. Kudos for (finally) fixing.

Unfortunately, it looks like the fix they implemented has actually sparked a new (and even more annoying) problem for me. Now, after I finish a show, I’m forced to wait several seconds for the screen to refresh. Otherwise, I get an error when I try to open up a different show (screenshot below). Even doing the unwatched/watched toggle doesn’t fix it. I have to wait out the automated refresh delay.

This issue is more annoying than having to toggle the filter. Is anyone else running into this?

App version number?

2.16 (14822)

It’s been happening ever since the update that “fixed” the reload issue was released.

I find that simply force closing the app by swiping it away and reopening works better and seems easier. Ideally though it would just work.

It really is downright embarrassing that, after all this time, the bug is STILL not fixed. It’s totally unpredictable. Sometimes the AppleTV app correctly updates its listing automatically based on what’s on the Plex server. Sometimes it needs to be refreshed “manually” by using the filter/unfilter trick. No rhyme or reason to it as far as I can tell. So we have to live in constant fear of the Plex folks somehow breaking the filter/unfilter workaround (which would mean that we’d be totally f***ed).

You don’t want to give us a Reload button? Fine. But then make sure that what’s listed in the tvOS app is ALWAYS in perfect SYNC with what’s actually on the server, for crying out loud!

I have paid for a lifetime membership. This HAS to be fixed some day soon.

It’s a shame because this was actually working for a while. Now it no longer is again.
