When a new show gets added to my TV Shows folder it doesn’t show up in the list until I either force-quit the AppleTV app or do the workaround suggested in Apple TV's Missing Library Reload Button (changing the filter). The new shows do show up in Home, and they also properly show up in the TV Shows folder in the web app.
That thread has been closed for about a year now—does anybody know if this is still an issue or unresolved or do I have something set wrong? The options in settings for the AppleTV app are quite limited.
Sure, versions are reported as:
tvOS: 14.7 (18M60)
Plex for Apple TV: 7.20 (1)
Plex Media Server: 1.23.5.4862 (on a Synology NAS)
It may be worth noting that I’ve had this behavior for a long time (but not “forever,” IIRC) so it’s “survived” a number of versions of all of the above.
Either of those options will force a reload/rescan of the TV Shows folder, and then the new shows will appear. As a matter of fact, I’ve gotten in the habit of force-quitting the app every time I sit down to watch TV, but… wow, how kludgy is that?
Anyway, yes, the shows will update using this method, but the next time new shows are added they don’t appear until I do the force-quit dance again…
I’ve seen some behavior like this with (much) older versions of the Apple TV Plex client.
From what I know it can be a little sluggish to pick up changes if you’re simply staying on the same page – but even then it should pick up on those changes from your server. Navigating inside the app should always result in the different hubs and library pages being updated.
Yeah, it appears I’m having the same issue (or at last the same symptoms, with the same workarounds) as the OP in the thread I linked above, yet that’s old and my versions are all up-to-date. I’m puzzled as to why I seem to be having this issue now and others are not.
Unfortunately, navigating within the app or merely waiting doesn’t cause the library to pick up the changes, but changing the filter criteria does. I’m really at a loss as to how to address this other than to just keep my kludgy force-quit-before-use behavior.
Just wanted to say I am having the same exact issues as the OP with a TV library (used for OTA TV show recordings). Only 2 things that seems to work is Force Quit the app, or change filters. Both kinda lame.
I have tried restarting the Apple TV, the PMS Mac mini, and even uninstalling and reinstalling the app on the Apple TV to no avail. I do have the PMS settings for Scan my library automatically set to on.
I should note that now I am in troubleshooting mode and trying a lot of stuff for testing purposes, if I sit on the TV Library screen, sometimes it will recognize new content immediately. But more often than not, it will not recognize it, in which case only Force Quit/Restart or Filter change will make the new content appear. For my testing I typically just drag and drop content into or out of the Library folder directly on the Mac mini.
Since I am only recently using my 6th Gen Apple TV for Plex after abandoning my daily driver Roku, I can’t say if this was working well in the past or not.
I found threads going back to 2018 or 2019 on this exact subject, and it is a shame the issue still persists for some.
PMS v1.24.2.4973
Apple TV 6th Gen with tvOS v14.7 (18M60)
Plex Apple TV v7.23 (1076)
Hm, I wonder if it’s really just “some” of us? I can’t solve the issue either, despite trying many things, and it seems a glaring omission by the Plex team not to fix it. FWIW I’m running my Plex server on a Synology NAS, and my AppleTV is a 4th gen.
I would love to hear from anybody else for whom this actually works correctly, if in fact that person exists.
I’m also having this issue with Movies hosted on a Synology NAS using an Apple TV 4K. From searching, it looks like this may have been an issue since April of 2019. The workaround that works for me is to manually close the app and reopen.
