On the old AppleTV app, you could scroll to the top of the page and click “Reload” to bring up the latest episodes added. That seems to no longer be the case with the new version. It looks like I now have to out a page and then click back in, which is super annoying.
Am I missing something? Is there a way to refresh a given page without have to navigate away to get it updated?
I haven’t found a good way to do this either. I reported it during beta testing but have not heard any feedback. In some cases it seems even navigating to another library and back doesn’t refresh. I’ve had to change sort orders to get it to refresh.
I use that option every time.
The “refresh” button is good way to see only watched movies when you’re back from watching.
An auto-refresh function or bring back the refresh button is a good idea.
Refresh option doesn’t exist in my context menu, it just shows “Unpin from Sidebar”, “Reorder” and “Scan Library Files”. None of those refresh the unwatched view.
The only thing that seems to refresh it for me is to click “Unplayed” and then uncheck that option, go back to main view then click “All” and then check “Unplayed” again. Basically that forces it to rebuild the view which essentially refreshes it but that’s super annoying compared to the old way of refreshing the view.
I’m not a fan of these Apple TV updates that remove functionality and change major features when I turn on my TV some days…
This is becoming a real problem for me. So much so that I have recommended to family to disable auto updates.
When I finish an episode, the duplication bug happens (see screenshot) and there is literally no way to make it refresh. Same issue if something new gets added to the library while I’m watching something else. All of these issues were in the previous app but you could just click refresh and be fine. Now, even navigating away and then back doesn’t work. I have to force close the app and open it again to get an up-to-date library. I just had to FaceTime with my mother to show her all the steps she needed to do now after she marks shows she doesn’t care about as watched.
This feels like a substantial oversight. What is the logic of removing a button as important as this without fixing the need for it in the first place? Could a dev PLEASE weigh in here? What is our solution?
Is there any way to downgrade to the old app? As much as I like the new interface, this issue is a huge annoyance that has made the new app worse overall than than the old one
The only thing I like about this update is the list view. But the lack of reload/refresh and the du[plicate entry is getting annoying. (My girlfriend just got used to using the app and now it’s completely changed… I know it’s free, but some level of consistency would be great - and don’t take away necessary stuff like reload/refresh…)
I would also like to hear from development on what the solution to refreshing is. This has become an issue to get new content or to clear out watched content without resetting the filters.
Agreed. I like to leave my view on the “unplayed” state. No reload button makes this a pain. 20% of my screen is now taken up by features I don’t use and the one I would is gone.
Why try to morp the IOS interface onto the AppleTV when the navigation for these devices are different … just show that the design team has no idea about how these devices are used.
I can’t stress enough how much this change has ruined my Plex experience. This makes working my way through unwatched shows an unbearable chore. I’m really upset that a developer hasn’t weighed in on this yet.
I’ve been using Plex for over 7 years. In that time, I’ve helped report PMS security vulnerabilities, wrote custom features for the original Roku app that were incorporated into the main app, beta tested various Plex apps across multiple platforms, and even paid for Plex Pass since it was released. Now I find myself looking for an alternative solution because the user experience has been so majorly diminished. Right now, I’m literally just casting shows from my phone to my AppleTV because the iOS app manages to actually update the library properly.
It honestly feels like these complaints are just going into the void. I’d be satisfied with just a quick “we’re aware of it and are working on a solution”. Could we at least get an acknowledgement from the developers that they are even aware of this issue?
In the absence of a response, my next step is going to be to find a way to sideload an older version of the app to the AppleTV. If I can make that work, I’ll post instructions.
I am also not a fan of this update. I tested the beta app before and went straight back. (Now unfortunately that is not a choice).
One thing i hope can be fixed is that when viewing a TV shows library by “All episodes” by “Date Added” the cover art no longer shows for the show. It makes it very difficult to navigate recently added episodes. Is there a way to switch this back so (like in the old app, and in the current Roku and Shield apps) we can have the cover art for each episode.
For your issue, you should check out sorting by TV Shows instead of Episodes. From there, you can sort by Last Episode Date Added. I think that will give you the behavior you’re looking for.
Like I said earlier, I’m actually ok with the interface itself. It’s just horribly awful to use without the refresh feature.
This update would have been great, had it not been for them removing this feature. My wife and I just finished watching a show and while watching, several more were added. We can’t see any og them in the TV library, but they are “On Deck” on the Home screen. That’s just stupid, we’re already in the TV library. Just let us see our shows.
