.ASS subtitle files lose styling/font when being transcoded by plex

When i play a video file that has stylized .ASS subs softcoded onto it not only do the subs force transcoding of the entire file (audio/video) it completely overrides any type of styling/fonts for the sub. ive tried this on the webapp, my nvidia shield, roku ultra, chrome cast ultra and the mobile app all with the same results; the windows app is the only player that will direct play them and maintain stylization. ive also tried all the subtitle burn in settings (automatic, only picture based and always on) on each player and none of them have made a difference. im kind of at a loss here does anyone know why this is happening or should this be considered a bug? ive seen a couple other posts with similar problems with no helpful responses. this wasnt an issue not too long ago, so maybe some sort of update to the players has caused this?

edit: only certain files are affected by this but that makes even less sense since they are also .ASS files

Check the settings of your respective Plex client.
In Android TV you should have a setting for that…
Settings > Subtitles > `Override included subtitle styling

Not sure there’s a similar setting for Roku or if the Roku settings override those in Plex

thanks for the quick response. i checked that setting on my nvidia shield and it was toggled off. i went ahead and toggled on and off, still no change. i also did the same on the mobile app to no avail as well.
