ATV2 FW5.0.1 jailbroken

Hi everyone,

 

Short summary, I have an ATV2 with firmware5.0.1 that is jailborken (FireCore) and I use the Plex Media Player. Starting to get a bit frustrated about the hangups it get now and again and I need to reboot it to get Plex working again. Then I found out about PlexConnect and wanted to give it a go.

 

Here's my setup:

 

Nas: Qnap 459-Pro II running FW 4.0.1, Python 2.7 and Plex Media Server 0.9.7.28.0

 

I copied the files downloaded from GitHub into a directory, edited Settings.py and executed the script. So far so good. The dns is also changed on the atv to the ip of ny nas.

 

I enter the Trailers app, not so nice looking (black with blue squares saying library, channels and search. I enter Library and I get a meny called Plex Library and a selesction of Movies and TV Shows, both selesctions scrolling the correct cover-art from my plex library.

 

When I try to enter ex. Movies I get "Trailers is unavailable. Try again later".

That did the trick :) My bad for grabbing the wrong file.

Tried a few .mkv-files and got the 'PlexMediaServer is not responding' but avi's and mp4's worked fine. Tried changing the transcoder quality and now that seems to work fine to.

Only thing I'm missing right now is the "resume or start from the last viewed position-option" Maybe if I update my ATV and get rid of the hack that feature is available? Or is it on the roadmap?

The PlexConnect 0.1 series will be receiving one update, for firmwares 5.01/5.02 only - it fixes the resume issue for them.

PlexConnect 0.2+ will be for firmwares 5.1+ only.

The released 0.1 can be used on 5.0-latest.

Thanks again for your help. I will try PlexConnect for a week or so and if everything works and my wife is happy with the change too ;) I'll probably factory restore my ATV and upgrade it and then updrade PlexConnect too so I can use all the features that are added.

Make sure you use Redsnow/iFaith to dump the current blobs, that way you can always go back if you want :wink:
