Working first, then horrible and now nothing

Hello Plex team, great job so far! But I've got a little problem atm. I will try my best to be as specific as possible.

  • Your ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software): ATV 3

  • The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS): 192.168.0.16

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that PlexConnect is installed on: Laptop with Windows 8

  • The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on: 192.168.0.16

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: Same as above

  • The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: Also 192.168.0.16

  • Where your media is stored (e.g. internal drive): External HDD

  • The PlexConnect version number. If using Github source then a time and date of download (look at the creation date of the folder) and if you are using any testing branch e.g. the Elan/PlexInc one. 2013/6/16

  • The content of your 'Settings.cfg' file (if you do not have this file you are running an old version, please update)

  • Detail on the media file if it is an issue related to playing a media file (in order to get the necessary information on a particular media file go into the Plex web interface, select the video file, when it brings up the page for the media file click on the "i" information button on the left hand side, it will then bring up a "media info" box, click on the "View XML" button, it will then open a browser window with the relevant information, copy this to http://www.pastebin.com and use the pastebin link to post the details; posting the information directly in the forum may mess up the formatting and generally takes up a lot of space): [PlexConnect]

    port_pms = 32400
    enable_plexgdm = True
    ip_dnsmaster = 8.8.8.8
    ip_webserver = 0.0.0.0
    loglevel = High
    enable_dnsserver = True
    ip_pms = 192.168.178.10
    port_webserver = 80

  • detailed description of the issue (the clearer you can make this the better): First time I installed everything was working perfect. Then I added 2 tv shows of which one with only 1 episode. I watched that one and still perfect. I added the rest of the episodes and I wanted to connect my second ATV that is on wifi. So I added the DNS of my laptop 192.168.0.1 and hit the trailer button. Then all the pictures were gone of the shows and movies. When I hit a movie I only get the Loading Trailers thing, that was yesterday. Now I'm trying again but when I hit the trailers button I get nothing.

  • Ensure you post your 'PlexConnect.log' file to pastebin and post the link ('PlexConnect.log' is located in your PlexConnect folder). If possible, follow these steps to create a "more detailed fresh" one:

What is the device with 192.168.52.1 on your network?

Did you set a DHCP reservation for your laptop?

Are you running VMWare?

Yes that device seems to be vmware. I have no idea how that comes up.

The DNS reservation is not possible in my router (as far as I know). But my laptop is always 192.168.0.16 (preferred)

Any suggestions for me now?  ^_^

EDIT-----------------

So I disabled the network adapters of VMware and now it is working perfectly again. Thank you so much! But then again is there a way to avoid vmware interupting plexconnect?

I would be very surprised if DCHP reservation (or the setting of a static IP) is not available in your router - you should set this up as your laptop's IP will probably change at some point otherwise.

To get ride of the VMWare issue it is probably best to disable GDM (auto discovery) and hard code in the IP and port of your PMS - if you check the wiki for the advanced settings they give instructions of how to do this.

Awesome... thanks for the help. My problem is solved THUMBS UP!
