Audio delay during start of play.

Anyone know how to fix this lag that appears when I press play? There is a audio lag between from when the movie starts to play and the sound kicking in. Didn’t have this problem with PHT 1.4.1.

OpenPHT 1.6.2
Made a video of it:

Also happens when I pause and unpause.

I have this issue only on unpause. First time noticed on 1.6.0. It’s like 0,5 sec without sound.

Question for you guys: Are you running through a receiver? When there’s no sound, some receivers cut the audio signal, which takes a half second or so to pick up when you resume play (i.e. after pausing a movie). There’s an audio option to keep the audio device alive in OpenPHT, so you may want to try that.

I tried that but unfortunately it didn’t work… It is something with OpenPHT though as I didn’t have this with PHT. Odd…

That is odd. Can you post a screenshot of your audio settings, along with what hardware you’re using?

I’m using an Intel NUC (Haswell) → Denon AVR-X4200W receiver → Sony HW50ES projector - and no issues with audio.

I don’t use receiver. The same issue is existing on two different pc’s. Both have been working great with version 1.5.x.
I have also reported that when you pause video there is no sound while navigating osd. Only unpausing “click”.
On my mac I have still 1.5.x and there is no sound cut off and there is osd sound.

I’m on a Mac Mini (2012) with a Cambridge DacMagic Plus and NAD 356BEE amp.

Having this same issue. Have OpenPHT installed on a MacMini and an iMac and they both have the same problem. When skipping through vids and pausing and unpausing I get a delay in sound.

I do not have this issue on my 2014 5K iMac, nor on my 2014 Mac mini, Intel NUC, Sony TV etc…

When pausing or unpausing, the delay is maybe 1/10th of a second (standard) before there’s audio. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scenario.

Is this maybe an OS-compatibility issue, or something to do with using external AMPs/USB devices?

What OS X versions are you two using? I’m on El Capitan.

Same here, Mac Mini 10.9.5, no receiver, straight to the TV.

This issue seems to be related to OS X, what version of OS X are you running and please enabled debug logging in preference and share your logs if you have this issue.

Using OpenPHT for OSX, with no issues, so can’t be related to OSX, suggest you settings are not quite right.

Running OS X 10.10.5. Enabled debug logging and played some videos afterwards for the log to catch something.

I’ve got the same issue - also using a Mac Mini, OS X El Capitan. Audio via Yamaha AV reciever. Very slight delay in audio kicking in when initially starting playback or after pausing and then un-pausing. Problem started with OpenPHT 1.6. Never ran into it with previous builds of OpenPHT or PHT. Can’t really notice it when playing music, but more obvious with video/dialogue.

Same issue here using Chromebox with Onkyo receiver.

OpenPHT is set to keep the audio device alive ‘always’, unfortunately it doesn’t help.

@Leo727

Onkyo receivers are sensitive to HDMI clock timings, so they start dropping packets and force renegotiation which causes the behavior your seeing.

This has been covered in other forum sections.

Thanks Ned. I’ve now spent a few hours reading old threads here and on other forums so I understand the issue with Onkyo receivers a bit better now.

I have read about a Kodi setting in advancedsettings.xml which apparently works for some people, but after testing this setting with OpenPHT it doesn’t seem to do anything, or at least it didn’t fix my problem. I wonder if maybe this setting can be enabled for OpenPHT?

I did find a temporary solution - I’ve disabled Passthrough in the Audio Output options, and the delay is now gone. Of course that’s not an ideal solution, but it’s better than losing audio regularly.

I wonder if the fact that the sound doesn’t drop when Passthrough is disabled is a clue to implementing a solution that also works with Passthrough enabled?

Same here with 2011 mac mini running Mavericks, and a Onkyo receiver.
I had no issues with the sound delay with previous versions of OpenPHT, so i doubt it will have to do with the hardware in any form.
