Audio Device - HDMI

Server Version#: 1.24.3.5033
Player Version#: 1.33.0.2444-a220eae4

I play plex from a windows 10 desktop, to my Onkyo receiver, over HDMI.

I’ve entered the Plex settings - Player - Audio Device. i’ve changed it from “Auto Select”, which always down-grades audio from 5.1 to stereo. I’ve changed it to my receiver, and then set Audio Device Kind to HDMI. Then I check all the boxes for Passthrough (Dobly Digital, Plus, DTS, HD, TrueHD).

With these settings in place, all my content plays perfectly. The problem is sometimes I turn off my receiver and TV. In this case, Plex reverts the settings back to “Auto Select Device”, and now I’m back to Stereo.

How do I get this setting to stay forever at HDMI and Passthrough?

First, your version is a bit old; you should be on 1.35.1. When you turn these devices back on, if the app is still running, it should detect the change and switch back to the ones you selected.

I’m having an update problem also. Let me manually update and see if it fixes the issues.

I updated to the newest version, and this is still a constant problem.

I have the exact same issue with my Denon AVR. Means constant monitoring of the audio source to see if it has reverted to “AUTO”. I haven’t pinned down when this happens exactly. I suspect it may be either when my home theater shuts down, or turns on.

Maybe it’s the order of the power-on sequence. I’m using Logitech Harmony IR remote, and it is severely lacking in the turn on, and turn off phases. I can’t re-order the device power up/down sequence. Also doesn’t let me add delays between device power toggling either.

But back to Plex… every time I find it back on AUTO, I go through the menu selections once again and it is good for that session of media. Pretty much a part of my daily routine to constantly fiddle with the PLAYER attributes. Does this happen to other users with AVRs hooked up via HDMI?
