Been using Plex for a long long time, love it. However, one feature it does not have that is a quality of life improvement and not just a bell or whistle is the ability to advance or delay the audio slightly on movies and shows. Most of the time I have no issues at all with my audio, however, every once in a while I come across one show or movie that is almost unwatchable due to the audio issues. I know most of you have experienced this, it happens to us all. There needs to be a quick and easy fix for this. My WDTV had it and it was a life saver in many situations. Please make this a reality!
This feature is and always has been available in PMC and PHT. During playback if you open the audio settings dialog, look for the audio offset.

I have had to use it from time to time. Only thing that is a pain is that you have to drill down into menus to change it, having a keyboard shortcut would be nice. Something like Shift + & -.
Can you please add this audio offset modification in mobile apps.
I read a lot of topic on this forum about this feature and more than one time someone wrote that it’s not an important feature or that not a lot of people need it.
Then let me add something to the debate real quick.
If you use bluetooth headset or headphones to watch your content on the go, even with the new BT 5 you can have a 500 ms offset due to the bluetooth only. (And yes it’s very noticeable)
And you can add the fact that in the Apple ecosystem they are removing the jack port from their latest devices, so bluetooth is the way to go.
I also read a lot that there is no real customer support for plex, hope to see that it’s false statement.
I’m french so please excuse any mistake I could make
Summary:
It would be very nice to have the ability to set an “audio offset” on a per client basis to allow for adjusting the audio/video sync for setups that introduce a delay in either the audio or video rendering.
Real world example of the problem:
The Xbox One sends audio out both the hdmi port and the optical audio out port. Oddly, the audio from the optical port (for me at least) is 120ms delayed from the hdmi audio. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem becuase a person only uses one or the other. If you are using the optical audio out, you are probably running through a receiver which can be used to correct for this problem. However, there are headsets your can buy (like the Turtle Beach Elite 800x) which utilize the optical audio out. In my case I need to be able to play Rock Band 4 while listening to the audio from either the hdmi or the optical audio port. It is virtually impossible to play rb4 if the audio is off by 120ms. As a result, I’ve used my receiver to artificially introduce a 120ms audio delay so it the hdmi audio is now in sync with the optical audio. This allows me to calibrate rb4 one time and it is in perfect sync regardless of which port the audio is coming from.
Unfortunately, this means that all the audio from the Xbox One is 120ms behind the video. For video games this really is not a big deal, but for watching video, it is a discomforting amount of delay. Granted, this is really an Xbox One issue, but there is no indication that they will fix it. Given the number of platforms the Plex client runs on, I suspect that there are many other scenarios where the hardware/software platform on which the client is running introduces an a/v sync problem. As such having the ability to configure an offset would likely be beneficial to many people.
It’s come up multiple times on these forums, and continues to be one of the main reasons people (like myself) continue to use Plex for Kodi over the official Plex app.
Audio offset support, i.e what Kodi has.
It’s a must for anyone who has delay issues with Android TV.
Mod Edit: There’s been a number of suggestions over the years. With everybody creating their own requests, there’s been little actual votes (actually none or only the vote of each owner) – hence I’m merging the requests to consolidate those votes.
Please use the search before raising new suggestions
Can everyone please put a vote on this instead of raising a new feature. I have dozens of playback clients that have this feature. I’m most interested in the Roku platform myself, but this features will be SOOO useful across all platforms. Right now I have to adjust the delay at the source, re-mux and keep multiple copies for different playback clients. A simple slider with 25ms increments for 500ms either side would be so easy. It’s 2022, not 2003, Developers, please look at this and make many people happy.
Added my vote. I’d like to see something like this added
This feature is vital to anyone using Bluetooth speakers, or using any other audio setup that introduces a lag (such as Airfoil on MacOS). That must surely be a lot of people. With over a hundred employees, I’m amazed that no one within Plex has run into this problem.
I am forced to access my Plex server via a more advanced player, Kodi, but would prefer to be able to just use Plex.
Plex already has subtitles offset, why not audio?
For the love of God please add the audio sync function!
I have ChromeCast with Google TV, I use Bluetooth Headphones through a transmitter because of codec issues. Bluetooth always has a massive delay and I cant watch Plex with it.
All i need is an audio sync function like any other normal player. Just in the playback settings, a simple audio sync
How is this not already included, Its basic features.
Please add it already
Ended up here when I searched for help on audio sync in the iOS app… Really unfortunate we still don’t have this. As others have said this is super important when using many Bluetooth audio devices. I have headphones that don’t need it… And earbuds that need it badly.
(I’d vote for this except I had to burn my last vote on disabling the new startup sound!)
For the love of all things mightly, PLEASE. It’s been long enough.
I’m using the wildly inferior MrMC on my appletv’s just so I can sync my audio/video.
The underpinnings exist since it this feature is available in some of the apps, please just give us a UI to set the sync across all of the clients or even at the server level.
And please don’t do something like limit it to half a second. Airplay folks need up to a full 2 seconds to work with.
Voted for this too. Tired of having some videos be off by microseconds. Drives me nuts watching it and turns off the fiancé.
+1 to this feature, it’s pretty essential for a good video player.
I’ve not historically had problems, but I recently acquired a very high-end (but 6-7 year old…) projector that has a pretty intense amount of video latency. This makes it impossible to play audio to any audio device that isn’t connected to the projector (vs the computer playing) without some headache-inducing audio sync problems. At the very least, a basic audio sync adjust feature would save me from running 4 meters of audio cable from my projector to my speakers ![]()
The Plex desktop apps DO have audio offset controls. It’s really too bad the Android & iOS apps do not.
Ah, audio sync only works for the home theater (HTPC) desktop app, apparently not the regular desktop app (which does not seem to respond to the Alt+A shortcuts).
That’s too bad. The way features are seemingly randomly divided up between the various clients is one of the weird things about Plex.
I would love this.
I usually have a slight delay on my Android TV and my AVR audio, I would love to have an option (a simple value box in ms) on the Android TV Plex app
Holy crap! 10 years and still they haven’t implemented this.
Not likely to happen at this point ![]()
