I’m having an issue, I have a lot of family who have access to my Plex, but their devices are not showing up in the “Authorized Devices” list. They can still access my plex library, and I can see them streaming on my end with a device that is not on the list… Any ideas on how to fix this?
are they logged into them with your login or one of their own?
If using their own logins, they’ll be their authorised devices list. i.e., you wont see them on your list.
I apologize, I should’ve stated in the main question that the users that are accessing my Plex library are all managed user Accounts that I have created for them.
Try switching to their user account with ‘Switch user’

And then do what?
I’m sorry. I realized that this won’t work.
Are you saying that the Plex app on those user’s devices is able to access your server?
Or do they use a generic DLNA-compatible player software?
The specific situation is my sisters iPhone. She has the Plex app on her phone, I made her a managed user on my plex account, she can access my library from her phone, but her phone is not on my list of authorized devices. I can look at who is currently streaming, and it will say something like “Abigail is streaming from Abigail’s iPhone” but when I look at my list of Authorized Devices, Abigails iPhone is not on that list… so she shouldn’t be able to access my library from her phone…
I would really like plex to include a list of authorized devices in my plex server no matter if they are managed users or shared (friends) users. As the owner of the server I would like to be able to de-authorize any device that has access to my server. It would be nice to be able to do this because if friends or family log into plex clients in places when they are in vacation they will probably forget to sign-out after they leave. Now with options like airBnB, I have found that most of the rental places have at least one device that is capable of running a plex client. Not sure why as the server owner, I would only be able to see devices that are linked to my account and not all devices authorized in my server for other accounts.
It seems you have encountered a bug in the web app.
The ‘Authorized devices’ tab should be there even for managed users.
I will file this for the developers to look at.
The authorized devices tab is there. I can see the majority of devices that have access to my library. I just don’t see her phone listed, yet she still has access.
Her devices should appear under her account, after you switched users.
Currently they don’t. That is the bug.
There is some argument to show managed user’s devices under the account of the server admin instead. But that hasn’t been decided AFAIK.
She doesn’t have an account. She is a managed user in my account. Her device should show in my account… authorized devices is not even an option when logged in as her because she is a managed user.
Yes, I know.
Yes, that is actually what I wrote above. ![]()
It shouldn’t be an option under her profile… if she is a managed user then she doesn’t authorize devices to my library… I do… I can see everyone else’s devices except hers.
I hear you. I have added this very valid reasoning to the bug report.
I feel like we aren’t understanding each other. Managed users don’t have control over “Authorized Devices”. All of the managed users I have created do not have access to see “Authorized Devices” and that’s how it should be. I, being the host of the server, am the only one that should see the Authoruzed Devices. Currently all the devices I see have access. The one device I do not see, that STILL has access, is that one iPhone… my worry is, if I do not see her phone with the rest of my authorized devices, yet she still has access… then who else can access my library without me authorizing their device first? This is more of a security issue…
Her device is currently assigned to her user account (which is a kind of a ‘sub-user’ account to your own account).
The bug is that this device is currently nowhere to be seen, either in your account, nor in hers.
Please be assured that there are no other persons who have access to your server.
This is only indirectly a security issue. I do understand your concerns which may mainly stem from the fact that you cannot see her devices listed anywhere.
@OttoKerner any idea if Plex dev would be willing to add my comment above as a new feature? At some point … thanks
The first part says the same as OP, which I explained above and added a relevant point to the error report.
About the second part:
Access permissions to your server are granted by ‘user account’.
You then authorize a plex client on a certain device to access this user account.
Which means for any user who has a full plex.tv account: only the user has access to his devices list.
For users who are only ‘managed’ users, see above. There are good points to put the device management into the hands of the Plex Hoime owner.
is there any other way to de-authorize devices from other user account in my server? would removing the device from the devices db table do it ? (given that I know the device identifier etc…)
