Auto-create Collections based on scraping from TMDB

How do I configure PMS to auto-create the respective Collection or Set based on the scraping from TMDB ?

My movies are in “Collection” folders on my NAS

If I can get around this bottle-neck with a configuration change I’ll happily dump Kodi and go 100% Plex across all my devices.

Edit your movie library and enable Use collection info from The Movie Database in its advanced settings:

Also ensure that you have the Collections setting configured appropriately (anything other than Disabled):

I just did as you said - edit movie library/selected "Advanced but the option to “Use collection from The Movie Database” is not listed (per below)

I forgot to mention I am using a QNAP NAS - could the pre-loaded software on there be a little out of date ?

For the “Use Collection information from TheMovieDB” You need to go into plex server settings>Agents>Movies>MovieDB and then click the little gear icon

Thanks for your help, Jason and Philip

Last question (hopefully) - so I have to re-scan my library, or refresh metadata, or analyse or Fix match the files, for the collections to be created ? Or would it be easier to delete my library (from Plex and let it re-scan from scratch ?

Refresh Metadata for the Library SHOULD do it, but the sure fire way to do it would be to re-create the library from scratch… It’s a pain in the rear, but it will work as expected… If you choose to go this route, for good measure, after you delete the library, and before you add the library back, just make sure you go into Plex>Troubleshooting and clean bundles and optimize database, then re-add the library.

After a while you may find single movies in a collection tedious.

How long a while is variable.

I did notice that, and can put up with it until i find time to put them back to single movies.

One more thing I noticed - the poster for the collections is not being download from TMDB - is that a manual job, or do I just wait for it to happen automatically ?

I’ve never had it activated long enough to find out what happens with the poster.

Plex will only tag the movies with the collection name itself. Sadly you need to assign posters and descriptions yourself.

While there’s no „hide collections with only 1 item“ setting, you can manually override if/how each collection is displayed in that particular collection‘s advanced settings

Yeh, unfortunately that’s manual, I use: https://theposterdb.com/ though, because there’s a lot of custom posters for collections that look better and more uniform than the retail posters actually did.

Thanks Chenks

I was expecting a lot more from Plex, and am not thinking of dumping it and going back to Kodi.

I will, in the meantime, have a look at Emby

I’m surprised that there isn’t a custom script to this end. Can’t imagine it would be that tricky for someone in the know…

TMDB are doing the metadata for collections.
