Yeah, if you look in the many other threads that Plex has ignored concerning this issue you will see that often it is mentioned that using the old player fixes the issue. But that it not offered on Android anymore. I read a couple of times people have had luck side loading an older 2020 version of the Plex client.
I am also having problems with almost all video formats and it has gotten much worse since the problem started cropping up in January (at least that is when I noticed it because that is when I got an Android box).
I had some luck remuxing to AC3 stereo audio. But again, that doesnāt seem effective anymore. Basically the Android Plex client is unusable for me. Fortunately I have the Roku and Apple devices I can use. Would really rather not have to buy another $200 Apple TV just to use Plex in the bedroom.
This is what I highly recommend for people having this problem with their Android Plex clients. I have been using the Plex for Kodi on my Firestick and both Android boxes. It is working perfectly. Use the Kodi client instead of the Plex client. It looks and behaves almost identicallyā¦. The notable difference is the Plex client for Kodi actually works.
I am not suggesting to give up on the Plex Android client. But rather use the Kodi client till Plex fixes the problems. And that could be months down the road. It should have been fixed months ago already.
And itās not hard to setup. Download Kodi to the Android device. Then download the Plex add on. Make sure to use the Official Plex for Kodi add-on. The current version as of writing is 0.3.3. You can even have Plex set to open up immediately after opening Kodi. Itās still Plex.
so i havenāt wanted or needed to use kodi in years, and i have to say i find it slightly annoying to have to load a program just to load a program.
that said, i can confirm this is working so far so good.
and i donāt mind getting the kodi extra video and audio options back (mostly the audio boosting is better).
note - there is at least one weird setting you have to enable HEVC in the settings of the plex for kodi otherwise it will automatically transcode anything 1080 or above
and its a bit slow, to start the stream or if you make a change to the settings. thinks about it a for a bit before getting going again.
i timed it and it takes ~44 sec to do anything, such as enabling or disabling SRT subtitles or changing your aspect ratio.
the aspect ratio thing is especially weird cause you can see it do it instantly behind the kodi menu but then when you exit the menu it stops and restarts the stream taking another 40+ sec.
Thanks for the suggestion. Iām going to try the Plex for Kodi add-on now.
This is so frustrating. Iāve been having the āan error occurredā¦ā issue on my playlists at random for months now, and this past week it has started doing the negative countdown like @the-Rory described above. Same issue on my Shield and Fire TVs.
I bought a new android tv last week and never considered needing to check if the Plex app was working correctly. I thought it must be the tv series I was trying to watch, but itās not. Iām having this same problem. Black screen and no auto-playing the next episode. There is no workaround? I am really hoping I donāt need to hook a roku box up to my new tv⦠Iām a plex subscriber and donāt really want to switch platforms.
Iām also having trouble with speed - buffers for a very long time and sometimes the picture is awful, captions are actually fuzzy. Iāve never had this happen before on the old tv w/Roku box or on my big Roku tv. It seems like the captioning is maybe affecting the connection.
If you need anything from me, log files or whatever, please LMK. Iāll supply whatever to help get this worked out. I need the autoplay in order to sleep at night (literally)ā¦
Same issue here. Player is a Phillips Android TV. I noticed this few months ago but I thought that it will be fixed fast. Unfortunately I was wrong and now Iām reporting itā¦
Did you use the real add on in the repository. When you first setup Kodi there is a Plex āshortcutā that just calls up the Plex for Android client. The one that is broken and we all are complaining about. I made that mistake the first time. Go to the the add on repository and do a keyword search for Plex and select the āofficialā Plex for Kodi.
Youāll know you have the right one if the navigation menu is across the top of the screen, NOT down the left hand side. Also make sure under settings āpost play auto playā is selected. Itās version 0.3.3.
If you didnāt install from the repository you arenāt using the right Plex. I actually uninstalled the Plex for Android client to avoid any cross issues.
[Add-ons] - [Install from repository] - [Video add-ons] - [Plex]
It gets real confusing because Kodi, under Android apps, it links back to the Andoird client not the Kodi client.
While you are in settings in Plex for Kodi 0.3.3 under advanced you can also select Plex to start on Kodi startup.
Hi @absenm, Iām not the original person you were responding to, Iām just trying to implement your suggestion. Iām using an Android tv and canāt get the Plex for kodi app to run. Iām following your link to install.
It is v. 0.3.3 installed, but I never get to the Plex login screen. Iāve uninstalled and reinstalled both kodi and the Plex add on. If I click the Plex icon under Video add-ons nothing happens. (added an unrelated add-on and it works from here). If I select Plex from the Program add-ons, it shows a screen with icons for android apps and for program apps. Android apps takes you to the list of available apps, and Program apps takes you to a screen that says āOfficial Plex for Kodi add-onā on the left, with the name and version number 0.3.3) on the right - clicking this displays a short spinning icon and then stops. No error messages are displayed, but no actions occur. Iām not sure what to try now, so any suggestions are welcome.
You covered most of what I would do. I am no Kodi expert. My only experience with Kodi comes from trying to get Plex to work properly on Android. The only other thing I can suggest is to confirm that the Plex for Android (not Kodi) is connecting to the media server from the client device. If it is not connecting, you have a network issue more likely with the media server (probably a firewall setting). In either case I would make sure the media servers firewall settings allow all Plex traffic locally.
Other than that I really cannot offer much more help. Since my Android Box and Firestick were brand new I was able to make sure I installed on Factory restored device defaults. I didnāt mind doing the factory restore since I basically didnāt have much already setup. So I didnāt have anything little quarks to effect my Kodi and Plex installations.
And no, I am not suggesting a factory restore. There is absolutely nothing to suggest that would do anything to help your issue. I only mention it so you know what my device status was when I did it myself.
Yeah, Iām pretty sure. I tried the broken Android client one first, realized my mistake, then downloaded the right one from the repository. Says itās version 0.3.3.
