Server Version#: 3.69.1
Player Version#: Chrome Version 70.0.3538.110 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Plex has started skipping episodes in TV shows. This has happened across 2 seasons, one reboot of the Win10 box Plex is on and one upgrade of the plex server.
It will be on episode 9 and the next one it plays will be 11. Since I started paying attention it is only even episodes it skips over and it has been every other even episode.
When I haven’t noticed until it does that really annoying thing of stopping playback after 3 episides and having played one out of sequence I can go back, watch episode 10 and it will correctly skip to 12 as it erroneously played 11 out of sequence.
Skipped episodes are correctly marked in the interface as unwatched.
It’s getting really annoying as I now have to carfeully check it is going to the correct episode at each changeover rather than seemlessly watching.
Having observed this more I see my Chrome device seeing even episodes breifly and then skipping them for the odd on rollover from the odd number.
When then clicking play on that even episode in the Plex web interface I do no receive the usual “You are about to play something that breaks your current playlist” nonsense it shows when you try to play the correct next episode after it has stopped at 3 tracks.
I have the same issue. I am on the latest version on Plex Media Server on Windows 10 and also Latest iOS app. I am using Google Chromecast Ultra to cast my episodes. Plex is always skipping an episode that I am watching as well as when playing music. This is really annoying.
I have this exact same issue and it’s driving me crazy! My wife won’t use Plex now due to it (can’t say I blame her). This is a showstopper (pun not intended) and needs to be fixed ASAP!
I’m now at my folks and casting from android and same thing. Gak.
Hopefully the plex team will see this soon, or have already, and a fix is pending.
I’ve had 2 plex server updates and one android update since spotting it.
I have even caught it in the act now on screen.
Just before the 20 second countdown it goes to the correct next episode and then refreshes to the episode after before starting the countdown.
This a TV series I have watched on Plex several years ago so I am wondering if the ‘Mark As’ flags are now not working properly.
They did change the name from Played to Watched fairly recently and this might be one of my first returns to a previously watched season of a series since then.
Same issue here. Started with latest update. I can manually click on the next episode, but autoplay always skips one episode. Really inconvenient - destroys one of the critical features of the system.
Same deal here using chromecast/chromecast ultra (I have 1 of each). Every now and then it plays the next episode, but 90% of the time it plays the one after that. I switched from Kodi to Plex a few months ago and this is getting pretty annoying - I like to binge stuff so as it is I have to go manually stop it and then start the right ep.
If it helps at all, I noticed that it only does it with unwatched eps. If you watch the same season again, it works normally.
I fixed skipping issue by removing “Auto play” from settings then experience on my phone… I am using Android phone to cast to Chromecast Ultra… looks like Chromecast ultra can Auto play next episode so phone was sending play next command after Chromecast was on it’s countdown to next episode resulting in a skipped episode
That’s a handy workaround for those that use Android to cast, until the issue is fixed properly.
As I have not changed the settings on my android app myself, and this issue also occurs on my main method of casting, via Chrome browser there does still need to be a fix implemented by the Plex team.
It’s realy getting old having to rush from the dinner table to the PC to reset the skip.
I know it’s a PITA given the time of year but it would be nice to see a Plex team comment that they will actually be looking at resolving this early in the new year.
Bum. Just realised I missed one 4 and another 6 episodes ago when the current episode made no sense.
It is making things unwatchable without constant vigilance. The 3 episode limit already screwed the couch binge but that was rare for me. This .breaks the whole concept of playing a series in episode order.
It’s probablty the biggest bug in the system in the last 3 years as far as user playback is concerned.
For me it is when I go into a season and click play, either on the season or the last played episode. I then have to watch the changeover like a hawk and click play on x+1 (at the end of x) when I see it skip to x+2.
I can see it change to x+1 then x+2 during the changeover.
The videos posted above by DevilDan show the activity in action.
