For some reason autotag is not producing any results. Previously it worked properly when I tried it with couple of small libraries with only tens of photos. Now that I set my whole photo library to use autotags, it doesn’t seem to work. Logs are filled with warning messages “WARN - AutoTagging: skipping item 44575 as we have failed to process it multiple times (4)”
I have set tagging on and library language to english in my photo library options. Server version is 1.11.0.4666.
We’ve found a bug where if the autotagging service is throttled it can cause items to become stuck (not able to tag) if a refresh is run multiple times on the library.
A fix has been submitted which should hopefully make it into one of the next two releases.
Currently the only work around in the current release for this would be to remove the library and re-add it however it would end up in the same state if you’re still throttled.

Thanks for the answer. What do you mean by throttling? Just asking because I don’t want to make the same mistake twice
Cheers,

We use a third-party provider for the autotagging service so we allow a certain amount of requests per user before the service gets throttled and the service will be temporarily unavailable until the throttle state is lifted.
The server will continue trying to tag the photos during its maintenance window as a scheduled task so you don’t have to worry about doing anything manually as the images will get processed automatically over time.

Would it help if the photos are in several smaller libraries instead of one big? That way I wouldn’t send such a large number of requests at once.

No, the size of the library doesn’t affect this as it would still be same amount of photos.
I have setup my server on a synology NAS using the latest version (1.12.1.4885). Autotagging is important for me as I am using the server for my work to manage stock photo collections. I have not had a single photo auto-tagged in the process. The logs show the message “AutoTagging: the service is currently throttled, skipping item …” on all items. The workaround suggested is not an option. As mentioned in the same post above suggesting that deleting and recreating libraries is the workaround, the account will continue to be throttled.
What is your updated timeline for getting this issue resolved? The only reason I purchased the plexpass subscription was to have the auto-tagging feature.
Is there any news on this topic? I’m still having this issue. I just updated to the latest Version of Plex (Plexmediaserver_1.15.2.793-782228f99_amd64) but the logs still say the service is throttled.
I am having the same problem. My library’s haven’t been autotagged at all since I uploaded them months ago. This is an important feature for me and would appreciate if you could communicate if this service is going away or if you are working on a fix.
Same here. Tried deleting/creating my library, enabling/disabling autotagging… no success.
Can’t find a solution to this problem.
I’m following releases (currently 1.16.3.1402) in the hope that a fix will be available, without luck for the moment.
If you have ensured that the option is enabled in the library settings, then the most likely reason why it would not be working is that the service is throttled for your account due to the max limit being reached.
If throttling is the reason you will see lines like this in your log file:
Yes, the service is throttled. I see that in the logs.
But it’s throttled for months, and no tagging happens.
After several months of waiting, as soon as I enable autotagging, the service is throttled, whereas it should autotag 10K pictures per rolling month.
I can confirm that - I have aroung 7000 pictures in my library and none of them were ever tagged until today! And yes I saw the support article on Autotagging.
I have a plex pass since the 25th of may, I recreated the picture libary and played around with the settings in June for testing, but I didn’t touched the picture library in July. And now in August the service is still throttled. I can provide logfiles of the same ~7000 items and the service is throttled from June to August.
It would be really nice if you could look into that problem.
