Bandwidth capped at 1mbps, no relay

Server Version#: 1.41.9.9961 for Ubuntu
Player Version#:iOS 2025.21.0

PMS is “Fully accessible outside your network” and connections have the green lock, but I am getting capped at averages of 1 mbps - it’s performing more like I’m going through Plex Relay w/o Plex Pass. Files will play fine if transcoded down below 1 mbps. The limit is not dependent on client, network

speeds are testing at 50 mbps up with client speeds at 100 mbps down.

I have tried changing ports for forwarding (including 443) and it happens across all clients.

Logs attached.

Are you having an issue with playback? Your screen shot is showing it direct playing.

Remember that bitrate varies, just because a video stream has an average bitrate of 4Mbps doesn’t mean it’s constantly using 4Mbps of bandwidth.

Unless you’re having playback issues I don’t see anything wrong here.

Yes, playback stops and buffers every few seconds. The bitrate of the file makes no impact on the apparent bitrate cap, it stays at 1 mbps regardless. As I said, smooth playback is only possible when transcoding under 1 mbps. The only exception is when a new file starts playback and there is a brief spike to ~10mbps.

Now with a screenshot showing a higher bitrate file:

iperf3 testing at 20-90 Mbit/s connection to the server

Go to Setting>Remote Access & check that you’re not limiting yourself.

Test your speed a set it accordingly and set your “Limit remote stream bitrate” to Original.

I changed them both to the highest non-original/maximum and then back, neither made a difference in the cap. It is very much behaving as if these connections are through the relay, streams are each limited to 1 mbps (although with the Plex Pass it should be 2 mbps)

What is the client set to? It can limit bandwidth as well.

Clients are also set to maximum/original, you can see them trying to direct play as well.

It must have been some kind of ISP issue. There was an outage and they repaired it and speed went back to normal.

Glad it is sorted.
