I’m developing yet another Plex remote for iPhone/iPod touch, called “Plex Buddy”. It is now far enough to go into beta testing. I’m using testflightapp.com and want to invite some of you guys to get some feedback before I hit the Appstore.
What’s “Plex Buddy” about:
Focus on easy and fast navigation
Every view within the browsing-hierachy is bookmarkable to the apps home screen (e.g. “episodes of breaking bad season 2” or “movies with robert de niro”)
Focus on organization
Edit Collections, mark whole shows or seasons as watched/unwatched, …
Playback on TV with interactive controls
Switch audio channel and subtitles while playback, set playback-position by slider
If you find this interesting feel free to contact me or just register at Testflight.
I've signed up and havent recieved anything yet. I've beta tested Constellation for Plex but that turned out to be frustrating ordeal where we were asked for feedback but completely ignored any bugs and/or suggestion to the features and the GUI. ( font is still unreadable).
Hii, I would love to have you on board with the betatest. I sorry, but I can’t see you in testflight. Are you registered there and have you joint my team?
Rebooted iPad & testflight finally showed a new version… Unfortunately its iPhone/iPod only & i’ve kept my iPhone is running 4.3 only because its jailbroken and I love unofficial tetris
Any plans for iPad/Universal version ? I really wanted to check out the GUI…
Oh yes, I have plans for an iPad-Version. After the iPhone/iPod touch release I will collect feature requests and more overall feedback to prioritize the next steps. And there is a good chance, that the iPad version will become top priority. It is important to me to make the things right that I release (rather than do to much and get stuck with errors and unsatisfied users). So, one thing after the other and, as said before, I want the users to decide what comes next.
Screenshot: This week I’m working on a further system-wide improvement (which was initiated by feedback from betatest). Since this affects the overall design, too, I will publish some screenshot next week, ok?
Hi Bart, I think I have to confirm you first in Testflight and add your Device Id to my app. Since I am on the road right now I will do this later this evening… Hope you like my app and be mean to it;)
Generally yes. I dont understand homescreen though (i guess video would help better) but I'd adjust the remote layout.
in the 3rd screenshot - buttons seem offset/not centered and fonts for text are super small ( time on top and audio subs ).
Thanks !
EDIT:
I've just installed the app on the iPad with iOS5 and this app just might be the reason for me to upgrade my iPhone to iOS5 as well.
App is really awesome and nice looking. There are some things I'd change but as a start I couldnt find show stopping design faults or bugs.
Great job.
I dont want to type Beta feedback on iPad so please let me know if you want to post here or PM.
Nice to hear that you like it. Thanks for that. You can give me feedback any way you want. If you think that something could be discussed with the community than a post here would be fine. Otherwise just PM me.
I just closed the beta test. Thanks everybody for your feedback. This was the first public betatest that I made and you guys were awesome! Thank you very much!
The App is now in review by Apple and will be in the AppStore in a few days from now for $2 (introductory price).
Will you be able to add an option to start Plex if it isnt running ? ( i guess companion app would have to be written for this or is plex helper enough ? )
Any updates when its going to hit app store ? I’m using latest beta and while its great, it has few UI bugs ( like no description, title etc showing up for movies while poster, actor information shows up when I ‘flip’ the poster page ) that I hope will be adjusted in the final version. ( or is it by design that movies that have posters do not have description/title overlay on the bottom? If so would be nice if you could activate/deactivate it by touching the poster … )
Still in Apple-Review for 2 weeks now! It took them 10 days to tell me that they could not test anything because it requires plex (oh, what a surprise). So they wanted a demo video from me which I provided them within the same day. That was last Tuesday....
Today I prepared an update to support the new 4-inch display without letterboxing. That was easy. But how long will this take until it is in the AppStore... I can't upload it now because the initial version is still "in review". Grrrrrr....
It is so on purpose. Let me share my thought about this: My goal is to make everything as easy and simple as possible. I don't see why users need movie descriptions in an app like mine. When I navigate to a movie I need to get an idea of "do I want to watch it" and I think a poster (cover) is the best way to get this idea. We are takling about movies that are already in you library!
For episodes of shows things are different. There is no identifying poster and the "screenshot" tells less to nothing. Some shows have 100-200 episodes and when I looking for that special "TNG"-episode a brief summery of the content is helpful, I think.
What do you think? In which situations would a movie-summary be helpful for you?
